Since 2010 the adventures of Finn the Human and his best friend and adoptive brother Jake the Dog have been followed by the loyal fans of Cartoon Network’s insanely popular series, “Adventure Time.” The series has produced a mind-blowing seven seasons with over two-hundred episodes and an upcoming ninth season slated to hit airwaves come next year.
But clearly not every leaf has been turned over as the series does have one fairly crucial question that has been linger all these years.
And said question is set to finally come to light in an upcoming eight-part mini series set to kick off the new season next month. Welcome to Adventure Time: Islands!
According to the official press release, the new series is described as an “eight part quest into Finn the Human’s mysterious past.” And the series will finally answer the question everyone is asking: What happened to the humans? Mysterious!
In Adventure Time: Islands, Finn (voiced by Jeremy Shada), Jake (John DiMaggio), BMO (Niki Yang) and Susan Strong (Jackie Buscarino) leave the Land of Ooo to embark on a quest of epic proportions across the ocean and into new lands—encountering new creatures, discovering new islands and using teamwork along the way.
“Adventure Time: Islands” is set to air on Cartoon Network in a four-night special programming event, beginning Monday, January 30 and concluding Feb. 2 at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT.
If you can’t wait for the official premiere, the epic tale will be available to fans on DVD, iTunes, Amazon Video and Google Play on Jan. 24 (SRP $14.97) with all eight episodes of Islands as well as exclusive content, including animatics, art gallery and song demos.
I must attest that my familiarity of any and all things “Adventure Time” is limited. (So many series, far too little time to consume everything.) But I do know just how well received and how loved the series and characters are to the fans of a season.
For a season to be standing strong and tall nearly seven years after gracing the screens and racking up an episode count like that is something well worth applauding. Never mind respecting. It has been said that “Adventure Time” is one of the greatest animated series of this decade. A fact that I for one would not argue.
And something tells me that the best might yet to be to come. After all the deeper you get into a story…well, things can get interesting.
