The first trailer for the upcoming Dreamworks Animated film, Trolls was released just last week but Papercutz has already announced their plans to produce an ongoing series of graphic novel tie-ins to the film! The first book will serve as an introduction to the original animated film, which will be released on November 4th, 2016.
Trolls comes from the creators of Shrek and it is set in the colorful, wondrous world populated by hilariously unforgettable characters and discover the story of the overly optimistic Trolls, with a constant song on their lips, and the comically pessimistic Bergens, who are only happy when they have trolls in their stomach.
Papercutz’s first “Trolls” graphic novel is titled “Hugs & Friends” and sets the stage for the movie adventure by asking important questions like Who are the Trolls? Who are the Bergens? Why is there one Troll who isn’t happy like all the other Trolls? And why does this Troll know more about the Bergens than any other Troll? The mysteries will begin to be revealed when Trolls Vol.1 hits bookstores on September 27th.
DreamWorks has aligned with several major licensees and mass-market retailers to ensure that a Trolls invasion takes place across America this fall. And Papercutz is proud to be doing their part.
“I was extremely impressed with both the fully-realized world and the tremendous launch campaign that DreamWorks Animation has put together for Trolls,” noted Papercutz Publisher Terry Nantier. “As a longtime publisher of kids’ graphic novels, we’re presented with numerous properties on a regular basis. But it was clear from the start that Trolls was something special. Like Shrek, there’s a charm and appeal that these characters and story possess that will appeal to adults and kids alike. I knew I wanted Papercutz to be a part of this unique entertainment property’s debut.”
Added Papercutz Editor-in-Chief Jim Salcrup,
“As a fan of popular culture, I’ve always been aware of the Trolls and their fan-following. Like a lot of people I’ve often wondered what the story might be behind these colorful creatures. I think the DreamWorks team has done a masterful job of answering that question and creating a world that’s engaging and fun. I’m looking forward to helping tell more stories with these characters and I’m excited to be contributing to the Trollsmania that I’m sure will sweep the nation this fall.”
DreamWorks’ Trolls debuts in theaters across America on November 4th, 2016. “Hugs & Friends” will be available in bookstores and comic book stores across the United States and Canada on September 27th, 2016.
