Princess, pop star, fairy, mermaid and even a spy. These are only a very small array of the various roles we have seen Barbie tackle. In her fifty plus years of gracing the shelves of stores fans have seen the iconic blonde pursue new careers. And in the process have adventures. As much as something change over time, Barbie has managed to achieve an impressive state of timelessness.
This year has been a very notable year for the famous doll. Months ago head-lined coated the pages of magazines. Along with countless online articles and even YouTube reviews of Barbie’s self-proclaimed evolution.
It really is fantastic and offer a far wide selection that allows for more options. Adamantly I am slight jealous; I would have loved to have had dolls with such differences as child.
As much alterations as the dolls have had, we are also seeing somewhat of a shift with the film series. This spring Barbie: Spy Squad released on the various forms of home media. Rather than a mix of fairy-tale fantasy with modern flare, we found ourselves treated to a more action driven plot. But no means is that bad, fantasy is grand and Barbie knows the genera well, but variety is also refreshing.
A shift that is continuing on with Barbie’s newest film that is sending fans into space with Starlight Adventure.
Barbie and her devoted pet sidekick, Pupcorn, fly high on fun hoverboarding adventures across a beautiful, far-off planet. One day, everything changes when the twinkling galaxy stars start to dim and slow their dance in the sky. Although nervous about leaving her home, Barbie travels to Capital Planet to join a special rescue team on a mission to save the stars. Once there, she meets galactic hoverboard champion Sal-lee and a team of talented new friends. Barbie soon discovers that if she listens to her heart, and with the help of her friends, she might be the leader the whole universe has been waiting for!
Remember that hoverboarding Barbie from Toy Fair coverage? Now it is clear how that, along with rest of the toys, come into play.
The film is slated for release on DVD, Blu-Ray and digital on August 29th. But fans actually do not have to necessary wait that long to sink their teeth into Barbie’s thirty-third animated tale. A collaborative effort between Mattel, Fathom Events and Woman’s Forum is bring Starlight Adventure to theatres across America. On July 30th at ten a.m. local time, for one day only, the film will be screened in select theatres.
For locations and tickets check out Fandango’s page for the film. As I write this the full list of locations is not currently live. However with the screening not far off it should be up sooner than later.
Given the fact that Starlight Adventure has yet to be released, and the only details come from the summary and short trailers. There is not much to say. Simply due to the fact that there is not a lot of details to be had.
Yet the summary is intriguing. The fact that we are seeing something with a base of science fiction. As I said it is different for Barbie, but that could perhaps be one the biggest draws. You can be girly and adventures in the same breath- a fact that Barbie has really been promoting.
And having Erica Lindbeck and Robbie Daymond in the voice cast is thrilling in its own right.
Be sure to check out Barbie’s latest adventure Starlight Adventure. Either in theatres, home release or on Nickelodeon.
