We recently got the opportunity to speak with Molly Jackson on her role on Game Shakers as well as some other fun topics.
BSCKids:Molly Jackson
When did you first decide you wanted to act? How supportive was your family about the decision?
I first wanted to act when I was four! There wasn’t an acting class for four years olds, so I had to wait until I was five. My parents were very supportive of my decision to try out acting. They drove me to downtown El Paso, Texas almost every day. Other than my parents, I credit all my success to the theater Kids n’ Co. That theater taught me how to love the arts.
Since you come from a military family have you moved around a lot? How has that helped your career?
I have moved around a lot. It has helped my career by giving me so many experiences that most kids my age don’t have. Due to my experiences I can relate to a lot more characters.
Can you tell us a little bit about your character, Jenna, on the Game Shakers Series? Do you share any similarities with your character?
Jenna is a perky, smart, and active gal. She is always up to helping people out, and nothing gets her down. I totally relate to Jenna when it comes to helping people out. I love to help people and solve their problems with them. I like to think Jenna and I would be friends.
Kel Mitchell is super funny, did you get to see any of his old shows before working on this?
I have watched some of his projects through YouTube, he is hilarious!
Since the show is about coding and programming at its core, how important do you think those skills are going to be for kids growing up?
I think coding and learning how to use computers are very important skills to learn, especially in this day in age. I have taken online coding courses over the past few summers and it is really fun! I encourage everyone to just try it out. There are plenty of free online programs.
What would you say your favorite video game on your phone is? If you could make your own game what would it be about?
My favorite video game is “Crossy Roads” it is the perfect audition waiting room game. I always play it when I need to gain control of my nerves before a big audition. If I could create a game it would be a mystery game. Every time you solve a mystery, you get top move on to the harder one. You would have to use coding to get past some levels.
What sort of music is currently on your phone?
I have a lot of Broadway music and classics.
Were there any funny behind the scene stories you can share with us while filming?
In between, us cast members, would line up and form a massage train. We would all give each other neck and hand massages. It was really fun and of course relaxing.
Who has been your favorite actor/actress you have met and what have you learned from them? Are there any celebrities you are dying to meet?
I loved meeting Dawn Wells from Gilligan’s Island! She gave me advice on how to go into my auditions, so that I never come out feeling I messed up. I am dying to meet Julie Andrews! She has always been my acting role model.
How do you get in character? Do you like doing live acting or voice over work better?
I make a play list according to each character’s personality. I listen to that before I go in to the room. I also keep a journal about each character. I write things like what they ate for breakfast. That is a sure way to feel like whoever I need to play. I love both, but my favorite is live action.
Any advice for other children getting into acting?
Stick with it. Don’t give up. I have been doing this for seven years now, and my perseverance is starting to pay off lately. The most important quality you need to have is perseverance.
Tell us about your work with pets? What pets do you have yourself?
I love animals and working with them. I try to volunteer at my local shelter when I have time. I like to help the dogs learn to socialize with people. I have five dogs myself. I have two basset hounds, one terrier mix, a Chihuahua, and a pit bull. I also have a lizard. We are so lucky that we have the privilege to have pets. They are such a wonderful thing.
Why should we all tune in to your episode of Game Shakers?
It is going to be one crazy fun episode! Lots of stunts, action, and funny moments! You won’t want to miss it!
