“Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” comes to the PS4 and PS Vita this week. The game will come to the US on Feb. 2, while fans in Europe will get the game on Feb. 5, courtesy of publisher Bandai Namco. This has been a long time coming for fans of the underrated series, as reviews in Japan stated that it was the best “Digimon” game to come out in sometime.
What makes the release even more special is the fact that the game will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the “Digimon” series, which happened last year. Many fans had originally written the series off as a clone of “Pokemon,” but it eventually won fans over, thanks to the anime’s relatable characters and intriguing storylines that were more mature than the ones the Pokemon anime had. Plenty of emphasis has been put into the game’s classic role-playing elements.
The game has a classic turn-based combat, which old-school fans will appreciate, since most RPGs have seemingly ditched the concept in recent times. Gamers can choose between a male and female protagonist as they go on a mission to save the world from the corrupt Digimon. To do that, the player must train his or her Digimon to the highest level, eventually digivolving into their strongest forms. Other Digimon can also be recruited into the player’s party by scanning them. Once an opposing Digimon has been scanned, there’s a good chance the player will get a digi-egg from the encounter. Players are going to have to raise these eggs into their more powerful forms if they want to use them in battle.
This is the “Digimon” game fans have been craving for, and they won’t have to wait much longer to get it. “Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth” will be available on the PS4 through retail and digital outlets, while the Vita version can only be purchased through the PlayStation Network. What do you think about this? Are you excited for a new Digimon game?
