We got a special chance to speak with Kel Mitchell about his new show Game Shakers on Nickelodeon this past week.
Game Shakers centers on two 12-year-old girls, Babe and Kenzie, who create the mobile game Sky Whale for their science project. After Sky Whale becomes the most popular app of the year, Babe and Kenzie use their profits to start Game Shakers, a super cool gaming company in Brooklyn, New York. Not realizing they illegally sampled a song in their game from superstar rapper Double G, they decide to make the rap star their business partner and hire his son Triple G as a game consultant. Together, Babe, Kenzie, their friend Hudson, Triple G and Double G work to make Game Shakers a huge success in the gaming world.

Can you tell us a little bit about your character on Game Shakers, Double G?
He is a rapper, singer, entrepreneur, investor and a great Dad.
Is there any rapper you think of when you have to get in character for filming?
Yeah I do, he is like a mixture between Kanye, 50 Cent, Diddy and my “All That” Character Coach Kreeton LOL
What drew you to the role of Double G?
It is an awesome role to play! He does music, dances and he gets to make cool apps with the Game Shakers.
Ok, if you had to make an app what rapper would you want to sample from?
Timberland his beats are bananas!
Do you play any pranks on the kids behind the scenes?
I don’t but the kids love to play pranks all the time, they love hiding in different places around the studio and jumping out surprising people.
How has your experience growing up on television helped the kids that are on Game Shakers?
I was close to their age when I started on Nickelodeon so I understand very well and give advice all the time.
When did you first decide you wanted to act?
oh wow! I think it was after my parents had enrolled me in a summer program at a community theater. I was a class clown and my parents wanted to find a place where I could get out my comedic energy so they picked theater for me and I fell in love with the art of acting.
What has been your favorite part of the show so far?
Everything! We have an amazing cast and crew and the episodes just keep getting better and better!
What other projects are you working on?
I’m currently doing a stand up comedy tour.
If you had a chance to redo a past performance what would it be and why?
We learn from our mistakes and grow stronger so I wouldn’t redo any past performances. For instance, one time I wore skinny jeans while doing a physical part of my stand up and my jeans ripped open! But hey it was funny and now I know to wear slim fit jeans. LOL
Do your children act at all? How do you feel about them getting into the business?
My son is into sports but my daughter has been in a few school plays. If they choose acting as a career, I’d be very happy to give them advice and knowledge.
Where can we find you on social media?
@iamkelmitchell on Twitter and Instagram and of course on my website www.kelmitchell.com
We just have to ask how often do you see Kenan? What character would you want him to play on Game Shakers if he could guest star?
We keep in touch. I just saw Kenan last week when I was in New York for the Good Burger reunion on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. If he was on Game Shakers, it would be funny for him to play his SNL character from the “What’s Up With That” sketch. Double G as a guest on “What’s Up With That” to talk about his new single but Kenan’s character keeps interrupting him by singing the “What’s Up With That” theme song.
Why should everyone be watching Game Shakers?
It will make you laugh! You can watch it with the whole family on Saturday nights at 8:30pm on Nickelodeon. It’s about two girls Babe (Cree Cicchino) and Kenize (Madisyn Shipman) that create and code amazing apps. The apps you see on the show are actually available for kids to download from the app store. That is awesome!
Special thanks to Kel Mitchell, who plays Double G on Game Shakers for taking the time out to talk with BSCKids.
