Recently, Walt Disney Animation Studios released a new collection on DVD of Short Films and it is UTTERLY adorable and a fantastic DVD to add to your Pixar Collection.
The Short Films Collection includes contemporary shorts starring classic characters, such as the groundbreaking 2013 Mickey Mouse cartoon, Get A Horse! And the holiday treat Prep & Landing: Operation: Secret Santa, as well as celebrated Oscar winners Paperman (2012) and Feast (2014). Enjoy them together for the first time in this must-own collection with all-new extras including an inside look at the Disney Animation shorts, featuring introductions and interviews with the acclaimed filmmakers themselves.
I absolutely love this short collection. You get to visit all your favorite characters again in stories outside of their famous tales!
In “Frozen Fever,” we visit our favorite Frozen characters Anna, Elsa, Olaf, Sven and Kristoff. But then we also visit Rapunzel in “Tangled Ever After.” Honestly every single one of these shorts is entertaining, cute, and super fun to watch. I loved it as adult and my nieces loved watching them as children. My favorite short was “Paperman” and “Lorenzo,” but you can’t go wrong with any of them. Put them on during a rainy afternoon and you will love visiting old friends and new.
However, as an adult watching this exclusive collection, my favorite part was the bonus features.
The Shorts Collection also includes some really fun and interesting bonus features so that the fun doesn’t stop after the short features are over. Every one of the animations are include a filmmaker intro where you can watch the creators discuss how they came up each tale. I love this kind of stuff because it is super interesting to see where the idea transitions from idea to paper to animation.
There is also an exclusive short included called “Runaway Brain” which is actually a short from 1995! This animation has an interesting history. It was originally released in 2004 as part of the Walt Disney Treasures Collection: Mickey Mouse in Living Color, Vol. 2 DVD set. However, it was nominated for an Academy Award® and screened during 1996 Cannes Film Festival. You can really feel and see the journey that Pixar and Disney animation has gone through since the early days.
Lastly, you can’t miss the @DisneyAnimation: A Short Story Shorts. The panel is hosted by actor/comedian T.J. Miller (voice of “Fred,” Big Hero 6), as he talks and interviews a few of the artists and filmmakers who make the shorts. I LOVED IT. So interesting. The stories behind the stories are often the best part!
