Hayden, how did you get involved in doing cover videos?
It started with me frequently listening to Jake Miller’s music. One time when we were in LA, we ended up staying at the same place as him. He was really nice, and we worked out together and built a cool brother-like friendship. I am also friends with Britney Holmes who was the featured artist and sang the hook on his song “Goodbye,” which is my favorite song. She said she would coach me and sing it with me on for my first cover; it was amazing fun.
Where did you learn how to dance?
I am not sure you can call me a dancer. I love dancing, and I am currently taking dance lessons. I have lots of friends such as Jordyn Jones who are real dancers, and when I watch them dance, it reminds me that I have a long way to go before you can call me a dancer. But I’m working on it!
Do you prefer working on singing, dancing or acting?
That’s a good question, because I like all three. At this point, I think I am a better actor because I have been acting as long as I can remember. But I just love music, entertaining people and staying busy working.
Who is currently playing on your iPod?
“Can’t Feel My Face,” by The Weeknd. I love that song. I know it was written about drugs, but I give songs my own meaning when I listen to and sing them. If you think about the words differently, it sounds like he’s talking about a girl. I recently recorded the song and will be shooting the video, and for me that’s what it’s about.
Who is the person that pulls the most pranks while filming videos?
Probably my dad and sometimes my brothers. My dad is always teasing me and trying to embarrass me, especially if girls are around. Sometimes it works, but usually it doesn’t.
Any good or funny stories to share while filming?
Yes, on my last video shoot “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” that we filmed for DreamWorksTV, my friend Ruby and I were messing around on our new Glider Boards. She was riding through the set, slipped and did a massive face plant. I guess it was only funny because she didn’t get hurt. Sorry Ruby! 😉
How supportive has your family been about your entertainment career?
They have been great. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t get to do all of this. My mom and dad are amazing and support what I do, but it’s not just them. I have 3 brothers – Jimmy, Hunter & Dylan – who are also actors and are always willing to coach me on my scripts and songs. I have a cool family.
Tell us a little bit about your fashion sense, who are some of your favorite designers or companies in clothing?
I like nice branded t-shirts – Young and Reckless is my favorite. I really love shoes. My favorites are Vlado Footwear, especially for performances or meet-and-greets where I need to look good. When I’m playing sports, I got to have my Nikes, though. It’s actually really hard to find cool clothes in my size. It seems like all the cool clothes are in adult sizes.
Do you get recognized on the street, what is your best fan story?
I do sometimes, especially if I wear my signature hat. One time when my dad and I were at an audition, this girl kept looking at me and I could tell she knew who I was and wanted to talk to me. When I finished my audition, I went over to say hi to her and introduce myself; she was shaking and started crying. I kind of felt bad at first, but my dad said I did the right thing and that she was actually happy I said hi. Girls have a strange way of showing their feelings!
Who do you think is the hottest triple threat actor/singer/dancer right now?
Jordyn Jones and Ariana Grande. Jordyn is going to be the next superstar. She’s my friend and is an amazing person too, so I’m cheering for her.
Who is the most famous person you have met?
That’s a tough one. I have met a bunch of famous people, but I don’t really see them as different. One of my favorites would probably be Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Any advice for other children getting into singing, dancing and acting?
Don’t do it! Just kidding. I’d share the same advice as my mom and dad provide me: give all you have as long as you enjoy it. When it’s not fun anymore, it’s time to quit. And also never listen to the haters – they are just trying to bring you down to their level. I like to call my haters, Hayders with a “y”!
Can you tell us some of your hobbies?
I love playing football, but I didn’t get to play this year because I have been too busy and had to choose between activities. I do love all sports, and I also like to scooter and ride my Glider Board…as long as Ruby is not too close by!
Where can we find you on social media?
I LOVE social media! I try to have them all, and I try my best to answer everyone’s questions, and thank them for their nice comments. These are my favorite handles:
Fans can also find more of my cover songs in the “Songs that Stick” series on DreamWorksTV.
Tell us what you are currently working on and some of your future projects?
Right now, I just finished recording the song “Can’t Feel My Face,” and I am shooting the music video for it later this week, which is going to be fun. My new friend Jade Weber will play the girl who makes me “not feel my face.” After that, I’ll be recording another song, but that is top secret stuff. If you follow me on Instagram, you will find out first!
