It is no secret that fairytales are popular, more so ones featuring princess; from the classics woven from the likes of Brothers Grimm to modern spins a la Disney, Ever After High and even a little more non-traditional Sailor Moon. Princess continually stronger than ever. Even though everyone is having a hard time letting go of having ‘Let It Go’ out of their heads, another Disney Princess is now poised to take center stage.
Even though 2017 is off in the distance, fans of the 2010 title Tangled now will find themselves, along with fans of DuckTales, counting down the days until 2017 in excitement for a brand-new animated series based on the feature film coming to Disney Channel.
Make sure you have your frying pan in hand!
As of right now there is not a great deal of information out about the finer details, we have yet to even know what this series might be called. As of now only a few small bits of information are in the public eye; the series will be set after the events of the movie, but before the short, Tanged Ever After. Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi will return to the world of Tangled are reprise their characters. Also returning includes Pascal, Maximus, and the thugs from the Snuggly Duckling Pud. But what is any new series without some new faces to mix up the equation? Also joining this ensemble is a new character by the name of Cassandra, according to the press release she is noted as “a tough-as-nails handmaiden, who becomes Rapunzel’s confidant.”
Despite counting Mulan as my favorite of the Disney Princess, this news is extremely exciting. Tangled was a well-crafted movie with simply breathtaking CGI animation- something I rarely goo over. Even though at the end of the film took care of any loose ends, there is a lot more potential in this brand as both Rapunzel and Flynn are interesting characters. Given the nature of the major of Rapunzel’s life things are still very new to her, this alone could lead to some brilliant stories and even mishaps that will have everyone laughing. Add in her budding romance with Flynn and colorful faces from the film and you have the makings for a hit.
It is always great to see other characters step into the limelight as well, and with all the other characters returning I am hopeful we will be given chances to see them embark on their own adventures. The addition of Cassandra is also something to note, even though I remain slightly unsure how this might affect already existing dynamics between characters, her introduction seems as if it will be valuable to Rapunzel. And for that I am hopeful. Even though it did appear that Rapunzel had a fairly good grasp on things at the end of the film, there still might be culture shock.
Over the years Disney has done several animated series based on various films, and it has worked well. Truly, no question that Tangled will join the ranks of another classic series enjoyed for generations on top of generations. With this announcement, along with everything else Disney is turning out, it is clear that Disney is not only on a roll, but also on their A game.
Join the conversation with us; what do you think of this news? Are you excited to see Rapunzel and Flynn on screens once more? What do you want, and even not want to see in this series? And with the return of so many cherished characters, what series do you want to see receive a new series of their own?
