BSCkids recently got the chance to talk with Veronica Dunne! The talented young actress currently stars in the lead role as “Marisa” in the brand new Disney channel series “K.C. Undercover” opposite Disney veteran Zendaya. “K.C. Undercover” is currently in its first season.
Dunne began performing at the age of four! She got her start in theater as Cinderella and continued to perform including being offered the lead role of Sophie in Broadway’s “Mama Mia.” She has guest starred on “According to Jim,” “The Suite Life on Deck,” “Austin & Ally,” and “Kickin’ It.” At the age of 20, she aspires to be a strong role model and inspiration to fans of the channel. Dunne loves to be able to tell a story and take her audience on a journey, often performing for the simple act of making people laugh and bringing them joy; considering being a comic relief as a blessing. In her spare time, Dunne enjoys singing, dancing (performing as a ballerina and on point for three years), musical theater, spending time at the beach, and being an overall movie buff.
BSCKids: Veronica Dunne
Have you always known you wanted to be an actor?
Yes, always!
How supportive were your family and friends about your career choice?
They couldn’t have been more supportive.
Tell us about your character Marisa in the new series on Disney, “K.C. Undercover.”
Marisa is outgoing, vivacious, and the life of every party.
Do you share and similaruities with your character?
Yes she is just a heightened version of me.
What is your routine to get into character every day on set?
After I get into wardrobe, and hair/makeup it is pretty easy to fall into it, I run my lines with our coach, take a few moments before to breathe and focus on my characters intention
Tell us what it was like starring opposite a Disney veteran like Zendaya.
She is so wonderful and down to earth, I absolutely love working with her.
Do you have any stories from set that you can tell us about? Do all the actors hang out together?
We just have so much fun together, we are all constantly dancing around and making each other laugh.
What influenced your decision to take the role in “K.C. Undercover” over the lead role of Sophie in Broadway’s “Mama Mia?”
It was such a difficult decision but I ultimately felt like I should take the opportunity to do television and then go back to NYC and do theatre in the future.
You were also offered a on a chance to attend the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh for musical theater (winning a spot to attend out of fifteen hundred applicants), why did you pass on the chance and do you plan to attend later?
I deferred from CMU, I could possibly go in the future, I am just taking advantage of this amazing platform and opportunity that I have been given.
What has been your favorite role to date and why?
Marisa of course! She is just so fun, and I love making people laugh.
What actor do you think is the most inspirational to you and why?
There are so many actors who have really inspired me but Lucile Ball Jessica Chastain have truly pushed me to be a better performer and have given me constant inspiration.
How do you balance your personal life and being so active in the entertainment industry?
Carving out time to spend with my friends and family is really important to me and I make sure to do it as much as possible.
If acting hadn’t worked out, what do you think your other career choice would be and why?
Probably teaching Musical Theatre!
Do you have any advice for your actors trying to break into the industry?
Just to truly believe in yourself and work as hard as you can.
