What inspired you to become an actor?
There was a show in Canada called “This is Daniel Cook” It was a show about a young boy named Daniel and he would do different jobs or activities and interview people. I loved that show and watched it all the time. I wanted to be on TV like him.
What were your parent’s reactions when you told them you wanted to be a television and movie star?
My parents encourage my brother and me to try different things. They really did not think that acting would have taken me all the places it has so far.
You have starred in several supernatural and science fiction television shows like “Smallville” and” Fringe.” Was this intentional and do you tend to lean towards to sci-fi themes?
I am a huge fan of sci -fi and am really lucky these shows continue to support me. I am actually coming back to work on Supernatural and am going to wardrobe this afternoon!
What has been your favorite project so far?
I can’t give to many details, but I recently shot a trailer for one of the writers at Marvel comics. It was very physical and I got to spit fake blood and do my own stunts! It may not look like it in the photo, but I loved the action and had one of my best days on set!
What was it like working with Chloe Moretz on If I Stay?
It was really great meeting and working with Chloe. She worked so hard being the lead of the movie and going to school on her breaks on set. She is very disciplined to get everything done that she has to in a day and she is really someone to admire.
Tell us about your character in the film and do you share and similarities with him?
Teddy is a great kid who is always up for a goodtime! He really loves his sister and is very proud of her for playing the cello and for loving something that makes her unique to her family and friends. Teddy also thinks that Mia’s boyfriend Adam is the best person in the world! I think that if Teddy grew up to be as great as Adam, he would be really happy.
What was the biggest or hardest difference between working on a movie versus working on a television series? Which you like working on more?
TV Shows that have been on for many years are like a sports teams with players who have been together for a long time. Everyone knows each other and really come together like a family. In movies, the team is made up of a whole bunch of people are coming together for a short time and it is fun but can be crazy. The thing I love about movies is a good one can last forever. My Favorite movie “ Ferris Buellers Day Off “ came out 17 years before I was even born!
What has been the biggest lesson you have learned from all the big name actors you have worked with so far?
I think the most important lesson is to always be kind to everyone and to just be you! When I booked a job that would have me working with Helena Bohnam Carter on The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet, I was a bit nervous to meet her because she is so famous! It was such a great surprise to find out she is a really funny person and so nice to everyone she meets. She would take me to lunch on set and would call me “Bubbles”. It was really nice.
Are there any actors you want to work with but haven’t gotten the chance yet? Why?
My little brother Jack is a huge “Rock” ( Dwayne Johnson) fan and even has a bobble head of him in our room. I would like to work with him so my brother could meet him.
Do you have any other upcoming projects you can tell us about?
I have 4 Movies being released this Year! If I Stay, The Birdwatcher, The Young and Prodigious TS Spivet and Hector and the Search for Happiness. Some of the actors I worked with on these are : Chloe Moretz, Jamie Blackley, Helena Bohnam Carter, Matreya Fedor and Simon Pegg.
How do you find time to act and go to public school?
It is pretty easy actually, most of my auditions are taped and a lot of the live ones are booked after school. When I do go to set I have great set teachers who work with my regular teacher to make sure I don’t miss any assignments.
What are your favorite hobbies outside of school and acting?
I play football for the White Rock Titans, I also love video games Sailing and riding my mountain bike.
Do you kids at school treat you differently since you appear on movies and television?
My friends don’t care that I am on TV. I guess if it mattered to them they would not be my real friends.
Is acting something you want to do when you are older?
I would like to act when I am older. The roles have gotten so much more interesting than when I started doing commercials. I am sure that it is even better when you are an adult.
What is a career you would go into if acting wasn’t an option?
I have always dreamed of playing pro football and maybe someday. I know that not a career that you can count on so I would also like to work behind the scenes on set and plan on going to Film School when I am older.
