Random House Children’s Books recently announced the release of their brand new picture eBook adaptation of the classic novel, “The Wonderful Wizard of OZ.” The novel, written by L. Frank Baum, is one of the best known fairytales in American pop culture since its publication in 1900.
The eBook adaptation includes two editions: the Read & Listen Edition for $9.99 with narration, and a Picture Book Adaptation for $6.99 without narration. Both editions are available at select eBook retailers as of February 27, 2013.
Smashing Ideas, a digital strategy and product company and division of Random House, also has taken the classic tale and reimagined it into an immersive interactive journey with the Oz for the iPad app. The standalone app includes interactions and real-time physics throughout, guiding readers through the classic story about the magical journey of Dorothy Gale, her dog, Toto, and her faithful friends to the Emerald City.
Both the eBook and interactive app for iPad incorporate beautiful illustrations throughout the novel’s 52 pages by Illustrator/Designer, Shaun Pendergast, whose goal, with Smashing Ideas developer, Ben Roberts, was to make it “the best-illustrated book for the iPad.”
Now available in the App Store™ for $3.99, the app is offered in two separate modes to experience the adventure with vivid illustrations throughout, creating a rich new world of storytelling.
The Picture Book mode offers readers:
- All 24 chapters with enhanced interactions and animations
- Real-time physics within interactive scenes

The Original Novel mode offers readers:
