BSCkids: Natalie Dreyfuss
When did you decide you wanted to be an actress?
I was a ballerina all through my childhood so when I stopped dancing I needed to find another performing art where I could express myself. I was about 18. Acting felt like a huge relief after a life of dance, it’s much more about being unique than trying to be something perfect.
You are currently starring as Chloe in “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” tell us about your character.
Chloe is a sweet, funny, smart girl who got very lost. She is only 16 and found herself in a scary place where she couldn’t find a way to get out. Luckily, Leo finds her and decides to change her life for good.
Do you share any similarities with her that help you get into character?
I think I am most similar to her in that she can bounce back from anything no matter how difficult. She’s one tough cookie.
You were also on an episode of “New Girl,” did you learn anything from the high-profile actors on the series, Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, and Hannah Simone?
Most of my scenes were with Jake Johnson. He is such a sweet man but also incredibly talented. He is so quick on his feet he will surprise you with something new every single take. He was awesome.
What has been your favorite project so far?
Probably Lifetime’s Rita Rocks. I did two seasons on that show so you really develop a family with the cast and crew. I miss them all the time.
How supportive have your friends and family been about your career choice?
I think because I have a good outlook on how to handle this business, my friends and family support the decision to pursue this career. I don’t do this for fame or fortune. That’s when you have to worry about someone.
What is the hardest part about being a young actress?
Overall I feel very blessed. My experience in the business has been really positive. I don’t take the ups and downs too seriously. The hardest part is the constant rejection, but if you know in your heart it doesn’t mean anything about you it hurts a lot less.
If you could meet any celebrity who would it be?
Mmmm…Ryan Gosling. Talented and gorgeous, what more can you ask for?
