BSCkids recently got the opportunity to sit down with young actor, Joshua Rush. He spoke with us about his upcoming film, Parental Guidance, in which he stars along side Billy Crystal, Bette Midler, and Marisa Tomei.
Joshua Rush has appeared in several projects since first entering the entertainment industry. He has played the “young” version of handsome adult characters such as Zachary Levi’s younger self in “Chuck” or the young/kid version of Zachary Qunito on ‘Heroes’, and the list goes on. Joshua has lent his voice to film and TV including recent mega hitsPUSS AND BOOTS, MEGAMIND, and FAMILY GUY, and has appeared on CHUCK, MEDIUM, CSI: NY, HEROES, CRIMINAL MINDS, and PRIVATE PRACTICE, as well as commercials for Jack in the Box, Sprint, GameStop, among many others. His upcoming feature film, Parental Guidance, is an entertaining story involving a grandfather left to babysit his three grandchildren and the antics that ensue.
BSCkids: Joshua Rush
When and how did you know you wanted to be an actor?
My mom is a corporate video producer and she noticed I was a ham in front of the camera when I was a couple years old. And like they say the rest is history.
How have your parents supported you choice to be in the entertainment industry?
Well, we moved from Houston to Los Angeles for my career. My Dad now works part-time and he drives me all over Los Angeles and my Mom always runs my lines with me.
What has been your favorite project so far and why?
That is easy… Parental Guidance. It was so amazing to work with Billy Crystal and Bette Midler. And I got to live in Atlanta for three months.
Tell us about your character in the upcoming film Parental Guidance.
Turner is an incredible kid. He loves science and math and he is a little nerdy like me. But he is hidden behind a stutter and during the movie, Turner comes out of his shell.
Do you share any similarities with your character in real life?
I am a science guy as was Turner. In the movie Turner is bullied and I have also been bullied.
You worked with an all-star cast on the film, what was the most important lesson you learned from your fellow cast members?
I always had to be on my A-game, know my lines and have fun at the same time.
You love messing around with Terminal on macs, what is the most interesting thing you have learned to do?
One of my favorite commands in Terminal lets me watch Star Wars IV in ASCII-text art. The command is: telnet.towel.blinkenlights.nl
What is your favorite television show currently airing?
I love Shark Tank. Mark Cuban is the man!!!
If you could meet one celebrity that you haven’t yet, who would it be?
Selena Gomez. You know she is single now!
Do your friends treat you any differently since becoming a more well known young actor?
Yeah, now I get to sit at the cool table during lunch!
