When we first walked into the Hasbro showroom at Toy Fair 2012 and saw the extremely oversized version of Bop It! SMASH, both my wife and myself knew it was going to be a hit with kids. It was one of the first things that we saw that day where we said, make sure you remember to let us know when that is out, we want to play some more! Well the wait is over and we were able to introduce Bop It! SMASH to the family. One would think that as I unboxed the toy, I would be able to try it out first, well that was not the case as my 8-year-old promptly was the first to play.
The fun thing about Bop It! SMASH is the fact that it can keep your high scores and you can try to beat your friends or family’s scores while the very funny commentator lets you know how you played. The solo play gives you three lives and you play until you lose them. You score five points for smashing in the BLUE light and an extra life back to a max of three. The GREEN light means you score one point and move on. The patterns get really fast and crazy as you move on which makes for an exciting game. The Multiplayer version has you smashing until the unit tells you to Pass it Each player has three lives and after three misses they are out. There is another Pass it gameplay where you smash the light in the scoring zone until there is only one player left. After three misses the player is out and you hand it to the next player. All very fun ways to play a game of timing.
Bop It! SMASH from the kids: “I like being able to beat everyone’s score”
Hasbro has not skimped on the material either as Bop It! SMASH seems pretty solid great toy to carry around and the size worked well for both kid and adult hands. It is definitely one of those games that you don’t mind playing with your child as you will have fun as well. At the same time it is also a toy that is great to give to the kids to play by themselves as they understand all about trying to beat the high score.
Hasbro did warn me and they were right, the game is darn addictive. While I still get confused sometimes on how they rate things for age ranges (someone at Toy Fair did explain it to me this year), I can tell you that besides all of the adults that have already played it while over our house (including ourselves), our 8-year-old and 6-year-old play the multiplayer together and have a blast. The best part is even our 2-year-old can get in on the fun, as she likes the flashing lights and the announcer, plus she gets lucky every once in a while and we all get to celebrate with her.

Or have a party − PASS IT lets you get your friends in the game. Finally, MULTIPLAYER challenges up to six players to see who is the fastest smasher.
