Master Lock recently celebrated National Random Acts of Kindness Week (Feb. 13 – 19) by distributing free gym locks at area workout centers to inspire gym-goers to stick to their New Year’s fitness resolutions. Research shows that by February, 36 percent of people have abandoned their resolutions, and by April, that total increases to 54 percent. As a part of their celebration I was given the 1534D Lock (which you can see below) to help me succeed in my personal fitness resolution. I used it for a week straight at my gym and begun writing my review.
Like most of America, I joined the YMCA (or gym equivalent) as part of my New Year’s Resolution. It was tough, but as we move along through March, I am proud to say I have kept with it. I spend every morning through the week swimming, and even though the place is nice and in a nice area of town, I kind of always worried about keeping my personal belongings in the locker unlocked.
So I though, “yeah I’ll try this lock, it couldn’t hurt!” and I have to say I LOVED it! It is cute, and fun, and stands out from the rest of the locks, and it gave me the peace of mind to leave my stuff in my locker for several hours.
The first thing I loved about this lock was how easy it was to set the combination. Seriously. All you do is pull off the tabs and reorganize them in the order you want, which can be any combination of letters and numbers. The lock has raised tabs that make it easy to maneuver the letters and numbers around as well, and also makes it easy to scramble the lock once in place. It was also set up in a way that I never had to worry that the tabs would fall off on their own when it is opened. They are securely held in place and I never had anything mess up in the week I used it.
I also really liked to color and design. I didn’t request a particular color (they come in green, blue, white and black) but they coincidently sent me my favorite color, green. The bright color made it stand out from all the other lockers and locks. To many times has someone tried to get into a locker that looks the same as theirs because of the similar locks on it. But mine was the only one of its kind, and even if I forgot which locker I used that day, it was easy to find because of the bright green shade. It was great.
The BEST part of this lock was that it definitely made me feel more secure every morning. As someone who forgets things a lot, there were countless mornings where I would get into the locker room only to have forgotten something in the car. With this lock however, I could put all my stuff away and run out to my car without feeling the need to carry everything back around with me. Using a locker room especially when you have your purse with you (which mines carries EVERYTHING) can make people a little anxious, and that includes myself. Sometimes there would be upwards of 20 people in this small locker room at once, and having my valuables locked up made me feel SO much better.
Feeling secure while spending hours at a gym is very important. If you are worried your stuff will be stolen, or even mistakenly picked up, you have less motivation to continue your new healthy lifestyle. But the strength and durability of the Master Lock I received, definitely put all my worries to rest.
