So it is that time of the year again where you are looking for our help on getting some gifts for the boys. Well we have a ton of them this year. You can also check out our 2010 Holiday Gift Edition where we show you what they got last year, and you can also see what toys we bought for the baby girl this year in this years 2011 Gift Edition for the Almost 2 Year Old. This is the first year since they are in the same sort of age bracket where they get a lot of the same gifts this year. I will make note when a gift below was bought for a specific one of them. Now in no particular order . . .
Skylanders : Spyro’s Adventure and Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure Pack – Pirate Seas – This is my personal toy of the year, I think it wins hands down over everything. The writing is great, the game is fun . . . you can read my full review here. Get this to make any kid happy this year. (Review)
Jukem Football Card Game – This is a very fun card game that I play with my 8-year-old. You can play it a bit younger, they just might need some help. It is even fun for the adults!
Lego Heroica – This was one of the toys I was most looking forward to when we left Toy Fair Last year. It is only fitting that it made the Holiday List. It has all sorts of fantasy elements and even their grandmother loves playing it.
Xploderz Guns – They played with these all summer. The ammo does not hurt getting hit, and you can really let them fly and try to hit objects super far away. Because of the weight and shape of the ball you can get pretty accurate with them. There are all new models coming out, just make sure you have enough ammo on hand. The ammo does not stain either! (Review)
Nerf Super Soaker Thunderstorm – A tough item to include on a list when most of the country is in the cold, but these water guns are so good you need to make sure you have them for the warm weather. Maybe if you live down south, water guns can be used all year round as well.
Air Hogs Hyperactive – I have R/C race cars, the big gas-powered kind and the boys love to race them. The problem is that they are just too expensive and just a little too big. Now Air Hogs has introduced a car that is the perfect size and can take a bit more of a beating at a great price point.
Hexbugs Raceway Habitat Set and Bridge Battle Habitat Set – The battle bridge was on my top Toy Fair list so it only makes sense that it makes this Christmas Gift list. What I like best about the sets is that there is a nice set of random chance to them, so that when brothers battle, the older one does not always become the winner. Plus the are just so darn cool.
Dance Central 2 and Kinect Sports 2 – While you may have to watch out which songs the kids get to listen to on Dance Central 2, the fact that they can dance battle at the same time is so much fun for them. My younger boy is already in dance class because of Dance Central, the original. Kinect Sports 2 brings new sports to the table and the boys actually like playing darts the best if you can believe it. Both are also games that parents can have some fun with as well.
HOT WHEELS® VIDEO RACER Vehicle – We had tossed around the idea of getting the boys helmet camcorders, but once we saw the Hot Wheels Video Racer toys we decided that this was the product we were looking for. The fact that they boys love racing their Hot Wheels around in tracks we figured this would be the next step for them. Plus I have seen the toy mounted on bikes as well to record video so figured this toy had more options from the regular helmet cam.
HOT WHEELS® WALL TRACKS Assortment – Need somewhere to use those Video Racer Hot Wheels and if you do not want track crowding all of your floor space then Hot Wheels has the perfect solution with the Wall Tracks. They can be put on the wall and removed without ruining the wall.
Knock Your Blocks Off – When you have the option of throwing things at blocks and it is a game? The kids love it and should be on the Holiday Game List. (Review)
Connect 4 Launchers – Another great game is Connect 4 Launchers. You get to launch things to try to connect four. So you have to think and have some catapult skills as well. The best part is they rarely go flying off the table, Hasbro has made some great launchers so that the game stays fun and flows.
Wenzel Sprout 6 x 5 Feet Two Person Children’s Dome Tent – We had huge boxes from our dining room set and the boys liked camping in them in the living room. Well finally the boxes got so beat up that it was time to retire them. Well I couldn’t find that size box for them to play with anywhere, so it was time to upgrade. These tents look like they will be perfect in the living room.
Selk’bag – One of the products that I had never heard of before when the email came in. What an innovative product, and our kids LOVED them. It is a sleeping bag that your kids can walk in. Plus the quality is top-notch. It is something that you dreamed of as a kid, now it exists and is awesome. (Review)
Redakai Conquer The Kairu – best trading card game I have ever played. It comes in as one of our favorite items on this list. They went all out in making sure the cards looked cool, were collectable, but also were sturdy and brought something new to the table, the 3D effect. Well the game itself is great as well with the beginner game being great for our younger boy and the older boy wanting to play both the basic and advanced version. Most of the time they get these card games, they just look at the cards and don’t actually play the game. Not so with Redakai. The cards hold up so much better than those paper cards which is why I like it so much. I mean how many of those paper cards have gotten ruined over the years? (Review)
Angry Birds Knock On Wood Game – Angry Birds is everywhere and this allows them to play the actual game. They are going to have fun with this, let us just hope we do not lose all the pieces the day after Christmas.
Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar – Ok so we have to give them this gift before the Holiday, but it makes our list because it is Lego and Star Wars, plus it is something you can bring out every year for them to use. I miss the chocolate every morning of our calendars, but hey who lets their kid eat chocolate everyday at 7am now?
Break Your Own Geodes High Quality Kit 12 Whole Geodes – Last year it was a rock tumbler which actually went over quite well, just a few months later. Now we are bringing geodes into the mix, and these seemed to be the best ones out there without breaking the bank while you break the geodes. This is one of the items on the list that I really bought for myself but can give to the kids.
A Bad Kitty Christmas by Nick Bruel – My 8-year-old LOVES the Bad Kitty books that Nick Bruel writes, so this was a no brainer. The only thing is this is one gift you might want to give a little before the Holidays so that they can read it before Christmas.
Adventures in Cartooning: How to Turn Your Doodles Into Comics – My sons were both so happy with a book that is teaching them how to draw that we thought we would up the ante by seeing if they will create some cartoons and comics now. From what I understand this is not a how to book but rather a book that teaches them through the story.
I will also sneak in a great parent gift here at the end for anyone that needs one. The fuse PowerSlice (Review) allows you to charge up your devices (phones, tablets, etc…) and looks nice while doing so. One of those good gifts for teens/parents that seem to have everything.
So what items made your list that would help our readers this holiday?
