BSCkids recently got the chance to interview the talented, young actor, Brendan Meyer. Brendan currently stars on the Disney XD series, “Mr. Young.”
Brendan Meyer is well on his way to becoming one of the next hottest young actors. The talented 17 year old already has a lot of experience under his belt and continues to garner more attention. He is currently on the hit television show, “Mr. Young” where he portrays a child prodigy, who graduated from high school and college at the age of 14. Rather than take a lucrative contract at NASA, he decides to return to his own high school to live the high school experience he missed, only this time as a science teacher.
BSCkids: Brendan Meyer
BSCkids: What made you realize you wanted to be an actor?
It’s hard to say as there wasn’t a specific moment but I started going to the theatre and movies when I was young. I always remember wanting to be in movies and do theatre, to be part of the story telling process.
What has been your favorite co-star to work with?
That has to be Matt Angel. He is one of my best friends and working with him on both seasons of The Haunting Hour was awesome. He’s a great actor and we have a lot of fun off and on set.
How was it to learn that you got the starring role in “Mr. Young”?
It was really exciting because doing a TV series gives me steady work. You really get to improve your skills when you’re working every day for many months.
What can you tell us about your show, “Mr. Young”?
Mr. Young is a show about a 14-year old genius who has already graduated from University. Instead of taking a job of NASA, he returns to his high school as a science teacher to get the high school experience he never had. He is in an interesting predicament because he is the same age as his students. The girl he likes, his best friend and the school bully, who can effectively bully him, are all in his class plus he has to deal with his fellow teachers and his principal.
How did you find out that you got the starring role in the show?
I knew I had the role when I walked in to the chemistry read session and I was the only candidate for Mr. Young.
What has been the best part about filming the show?
Getting to work on a show that I really like and learning a bunch from the other actors and the producers and writers.
Do you like working on “Mr. Young” or the discovery channel series “Dinosapien” the most?
I really enjoyed working on Dinosapien but, if I had to choose, I would choose Mr. Young because I’m older now and can do an even better job. My role in Mr. Young is more challenging and demanding so I really like that.
What career choice would you choose if you hadn’t become an actor?
I love film, television, and theatre so much that if I couldn’t act, I would want to direct and write.
Do you plan to do more theater acting even though you have a full schedule of film and television?
I would very much like to do theatre again. There’s really no time with the business of Mr. Young but it is definitely something I hope to go back to!
Are there any new films or new shows on the horizon for you?
I have a small part in This Means War. I hope it doesn’t get cut! Other than that, I have been sent a couple of scripts but nothing I can talk about yet. Currently, we’re filming Season 2 of Mr. Young until the middle of January.
