BSCkids got the chance to interview rising country/pop stars, Jenny And Ashley as they release their video for their first single, “Indescribable”.
Jenny and Ashley are the hot new country/pop duo that are quickly rising in the musical world. Hot off the heels of their Camplified tour, the girls are ready to make their mark on the world. With their new single and video, “Indescribable”, Jenny and Ashley are showing they have what it takes to make it to the top.
BSCkids: Jenny and Ashley
BSCkids: Who decided to be a performer first and why?
Jenny and Ashley: Jenny did! She is 2 years older than Ash, so it naturally was that way. Ashley really got the ‘bug’ when she saw Jenny on stage at a school talent show (when Ashley was in 5th grade), and realized, “Okay, that is what I wanna do too.”
Were your parents initially supportive of your choices to model and perform?
They had the mentality to let us take lessons in any extracurricular activity that we had an interest in, so we could find out if we really had a passion for something! Funny enough, Jenny soon wanted to start doing pageants, acting, modeling, and singing. Everything that a simple, Midwestern set of parents DOESN’T want. Haha! She pushed and pushed for it, and they let her do ONE pageant, and she ended up winning Queen. Then they let her take acting classes, which ended with a competition, and she won the ‘Overall Grand Prize,’ which was an all-inclusive scholarship to a Hollywood Acting Convention (IMTA). Ever since, both of us have been VERY driven and focused on our entertainment careers. Our parents have been our biggest fans all the way through, and will always be!
Does just one person write the songs, or do you take turns or collaborate on the writing?
We do a lot of co-writing! We both love to write. It makes the music much more personable.
You just debuted your new video for the song “Indescribable” why did you pick this song to be you debut single and video?
You know, about a year and a half ago, we were invited out to Nashville by Mike Borchetta (Lofton Creek Records). We had a dinner with he and his wife, Martha. One thing from that dinner that really stuck with us was Mike’s words, “..Out of all of your songs, that ‘Indescribable’ song is a hit.” We all agreed and after recording all of the songs for our EP, we still agreed it was the first one to be a single. So after it played on country radio for a few months, we decided this summer to record a live music video for Indescribable!
The video was filmed during your Camplified tour, why did you decide to visit various camps for the tour?
Yes! It was. During the school year, we were asked to sing at elementary/middle schools. Each time, it was a hit. We met sooo many people and it was a blast for the students and us! So, over summer, we decided to go on the Camplified Tour, visiting summer camps throughout the US, which were very similar to schools! But, the main difference was, before we went on stage at the camps, we got to spend all day hanging out with the campers! We made soo many friends, and that made the concert at night just a big party! It was really a rewarding experience, and we really hope we get to do it again!
You have recorded many of your songs in Nashville, did you move to there to do the recording or do you commute?
We stayed there for 6 months to record the Songs About You EP, and we continue to go there to record, write, etc. We love Nashville! But, we are currently in Miami, which is where our dad works!
Is there a particular genre or artist that inspires your music the most?
Country/pop. It’s such a special, unique genre…and we really are inspired by Garth Brooks, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood, and Taylor Swift. They’ve all been able to pave the way for young artists, like us, to write/perform music in the mixes genre! We love the hometown/positive feel of country music, but we definitely relate to the pop beat!!
What musical artist would you want to do a duet with if possible?
Taylor Swift. She is so talented, and close to our age so we have things to relate about when we write our songs (boys, school, boys, life, boys…you get the idea;) We feel like we would have a BLAST in the studio!! And to work with an artist who’s that talented would be such an honor.
What do you think you’ll next single will be?
Well Jenny’s 16th birthday is on October 3rd! Coming up this week:) And Ashley is 14! So we will surely be writing more songs that have a little more depth to them! Songs that other teenagers can really relate to. That will definitely be the goal of our next single, EP, and/or album!
Any advice for younger kids who might want to be singers and songwriters?
Follow your heart, and work hard. Give your dreams EVERY breath you have! Also, stay true to who you are and what you stand for. Don’t let this sometimes ugly world change your views and morals. People want to see what you really are, that is what will make you special and successful in whatever it is that you want to do!
