If you do not read any further, I will go on record as saying the Thunderstorm is the best water gun ever invented for kids. If you don’t believe that statement or just want to find out some more, keep reading as I extoll the virtues of the Nerf Super Soaker Thunderstorm.
The thing that you need to read from the description is that it does require a hefty amount of battery power, four AA batteries, to be exact, but what you get is a perfect, pump-free stream of water. Now, some of you may argue that the distance is a bit weak and that it is not an instant soak, but when you are playing with some younger kids (5 and 7), this is actually perfect. Do you know how many times by mistake I have sprayed one of the boys in the face with a more powerful water gun, and all play had to stop as they cried it out? Many times, so, yes, this water gun is great for play, as an errant shot to the face does not provoke screaming in children. Yes, the downside to that is maybe I cannot shoot them from 35 feet away, but they could never get me from that distance by pumping, so this evens the battlefield.
That is my second kudo to the device: because there is no pumping involved, my 5-year-old can actually use this gun. Earlier in the season and last year, as well, neither boy could really pump a Super Soaker that well, or even carry one that well because of the size. The Nerf Super Soaker Thunderstorm is the perfect two hander for the children, while being a very easy heft in one hand for an adult. (Yes, this does mean that I want to have two of them for my water battles, but would that really be fair to the children?)
Another thing that Super Soaker has picked up from Nerf is the water clip. While this seems like it does not have a great effect on the fun, let me tell you what it stops. It stops the fact that at some point during a fill up at the hose, someone ups the arms race and uses the hose rather than their water gun. This is fun for about a second, and then the person without the hose is always annoyed. Having clips stops that, because what we do is fill up all of our clips (yes we already bought extra), and when the first person is done with their clips all of us fill up again. Having a few clips per person means that you aren’t going to have to fill up right away and run into any issues. You can either store you clips on your waistband or at your base.
As I said … best water gun ever! Go out and make sure you get them for the summer season.
