Christmas is over and my two boys, 7 and 4 (5 in January) have had ample time to play the Sony Playstation Move and the Xbox 360 Kinect. Not surprising my kids are both HUGE fans of the Kinect while the Playstation Move has only gotten played one time so far and not requested again since then. While this is not an official review it is just more some random thoughts on both systems from younger boys to help you get an idea of what they liked. I have also realized we now need an HDMI switch box!
They did enjoy both Bocce and Gladiator, along with some Archery on Playstation Move Sports Champions, but it was not anything different from Wii is what they told me. Yes the graphics are much better, but for them it does not matter that much. I think the reason that Bocce was fun for them is that we play the real life event during the warmer months and they love it, so this allowed them to play while there as snow on the ground in our town. We are going to try the demo of Eye Pet and then I am thinking we might pick up Start the Partyor TV Superstars which should really get them into the Playstation Move!
Now the Microsoft Xbox 360 Kinect has been a huge hit with the boys. They LOVE Dance Central and have played it every day so far. I can see them trying out for So You Think You Can Dance in about 10 more seasons. Plus it gives them a work out at the same time teaching them to remember dance moves which I think is a huge plus. My four year old is also really “getting it” now as well only after a few days. We also have Kinect Adventures which they enjoy, but no where near as much as the Dance Central Game. I have even gotten my wife to do some dance battles with the kids, so you know that is a game for the family.
Parents angle coming here – I enjoyed the Sony Sports Championsbut even I was not immune to the Kinect effect. I love Dance Central and even played after the family had gone to bed for the night. That being said I can kind of see where the limit will be with the Kinect. There are only so many things that you can do with it before the games become repetitive I think. For the Playstation Move I can see myself playing all sorts of games, but I am most looking forward to a nice RPG that allows me to the use the wand, well like a wand. The nice thing for a family purchase if you need to get wife approval is the fact that the Your Shape Fitness Evolved is a great work out program.
So this is what my kids think and I would love to hear what other people with small children think. I will also try and update after we get a few more games so stay tuned!
