I owe First Toddle an apology, as I received this as a product to review eons ago. My wife wrote about it after Toy Fair after seeing it at the show. I think I personally forgot how long it was going to take my baby to get to 3 months old, as silly as that seems, when I put in the request for the review set. Now that our baby girl has crossed that 3 month barrier, I want to give you my first impressions of the First Toddle. Remember that this is a product that is part of our Summer of Reviews, so you will be seeing some more posts on the product as it grows with our baby girl.
My wife hit on many of the things in her impressions of the product that I want to reiterate as well as go into a bit more depth about. The reason that this product jumped out at us in the first place: what other toy/baby product do you know that goes from 3 months to 3+ years? I personally do not know anything off the top of my head, and this is where the First Toddle excels in my opinion.
I open the box and get to the nice bag that First Toddle provides to store and move the First Toddle around with. In the bag are all the parts I need to set up the baby configuration, as well as some short instructions on how to put it together. If you need more help, you can find detailed instructions at the website, but, honestly, after the first time you set up a specific configuration, it will go rather easy from there. You can check out the configuration that baby girl was up for below in the pictures.
The mat provided has already survived a few spit-ups and come clean. If you look in the pictures, you can see that First Toddle provides two small animals to hang above the baby, as well as two balls to play with. You also get some extra fabric hangers so that you can hang your own toys. I think this is a great idea, because we had some toys that the baby already loves so we were able to incorporate them into the First Toddle. I also had something that was originally intended for a stroller but fit very nicely on the bar, and baby girl had a great time kicking at that.
The set up has many nice features besides just being able to hang your toys from it. At this stage the structure for the base actually keeps the baby contained a bit, if he or she is a roller. That was real nice for us, as we did not have to watch her roll away from the product. Also, the way that the pieces fit together seems very safe–they put a nice rubber-coated piece where the longer sides meet. I cannot wait until she is able to stand up and use the bars, but at three months she just does a lot of batting and kicking at the toys.
Remember how I told you this was part of the Summer of Reviews? Well, this is another spot where the device gets high marks, as it is able to be put into a bag to take on vacation very easily. A couple of clicks and the zip of the bag, and the First Toddle travels with you. Remember to stay tuned for future coverage of the First Toddle here at BSCkids.
