The long-awaited next installment of Disney’s hit fantasy musical film series, Descendants, is on the horizon.
Since its debut in 2015, the franchise has centered on the sons and daughters of iconic Disney heroes and villains, quickly soaring in popularity and becoming the most-watched cable movie of its release year. That momentum never faded as audiences followed the journey of the villain kids from the once-isolated Isle of the Lost as they forged their own paths.
But when one chapter ends, it makes way for another.
After a brief hiatus, the series returned stronger than ever with its fourth installment, Descendants: The Rise of Red. The 2024 entry introduced a new ensemble of characters, focusing on Red, the daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming.
In The Rise of Red, polar-opposite teens Red and Chloe travel back in time with the help of a magical pocket watch created by Red’s mentor and friend, Maddox Hatter. Their journey takes them to the days when their mothers were students at Merlin Academy. Determined to stop the Queen of Hearts from successfully staging a coup on Auradon—and hoping to alter her mother’s dark destiny—the girls encounter their mothers’ younger selves and attempt to prevent the future that turns Red’s mom into a villain.
Despite the unpredictable ripple effects that altering the past may cause, the girls succeed in achieving what appears to be their ideal happy ending.

Now, with the follow-up film, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, set for a summer release on Disney+ and Disney Channel, Disney has unveiled a brand-new trailer offering a first look at what unfolds after that picture-perfect conclusion. Spoiler alert: it’s not what the girls may have hoped for.

Returning to the franchise are executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh. Gatewood also serves as co-producer. EmmyⓇ Award-winning choreographer Emilio Dosal (“Wicked,” “Sneakerella”) will bring the brand-new music-and-dance sequences to life, which have become a beloved hallmark of the “Descendants” franchise.
While the stakes were high in the previous installment, the danger looming over Wonderland is greater than either Red or Chloe could have imagined.
Watching her once-trusted mentor and only true friend, Maddox, take a dark path and emerge as a ruthless villain is sure to leave a lasting emotional impact on Red. Though she may now have the mother she always wished for, she risks losing the one pillar of support she relied on for so long.
With Red’s emotions in turmoil, it will likely take everything she, Chloe, and their new allies have to stop Maddox—and perhaps restore balance once more.
