When it comes to animation, there are many legendary works that have become pioneers in the medium. One standout among these hallmark creations is Pixar’s breakout film, Toy Story.
A film made entirely with computer animation was once an unheard-of novelty—until thirty years ago, when this now-beloved classic hit theaters.
Over the decades, the world of Toy Story has expanded with three additional films and a wide array of supplementary content told through both animation and print.
But like all beloved stories, the tales of Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the toys continue on—this time in another fantastic film entry slated to arrive in theaters in summer 2026.
While the summertime premiere may still be a ways off, fans have already gotten the joy of seeing a brand-new trailer introducing a fresh addition to the playroom: Lilypad, a smart tablet who seems poised to shake up the dynamics of playtime once again for our favorite toys.
Check out the trailer!
In the teaser, fans are introduced to the new character Lilypad, a high-tech frog-shaped smart tablet voiced by Greta Lee (“Past Lives,” “The Morning Show,” “TRON: Ares”) that makes Buzz, Woody, Jessie and the rest of the gang’s jobs exponentially harder when they have to go head to head with the all-new threat to playtime.
Tom Hanks returns as the ever loyal cowboy Woody, Tim Allen reports for duty as Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack saddles up again as the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie. It was recently announced that Conan O’Brien will also be a part of the voice cast as the toilet training tech toy,Smarty Pants. “Toy Story 5” is directed by Academy Award® winner Andrew Stanton (“WALL•E,” “Finding Nemo,” “Finding Dory”), co-directed by Kenna Harris (“Ciao Alberto”) and produced by Lindsey Collins (“Turning Red,” “WALL•E,” “Finding Dory”). The animated adventure releases in theaters nationwide on June 19, 2026.
It’s wonderful to see our favorite Toy Story characters back in action. This time, it appears their source of conflict is rooted in something many people face in real life—screen time.
Knowing Woody and Buzz, this is bound to be an adventure well worth the wait and watch!
