Owl House – Hit Or Miss?

The Owl House

The Owl House trailer from Disney Channel has been out for over a week now and after countless viewings we finally feel that we are able to put down our thoughts about what we think about the show. These Hit Or Miss pieces are just our gut feelings and this one will be no different as we dissect the Owl House trailer and then put together our thoughts.

Brand new series coming to Disney Channel!

Luz, a self-assured teenage human girl, accidentally stumbles upon a portal to a magical new world where she befriends a rebellious witch, Eda, and an adorably tiny warrior, King. Despite not having magical abilities, Luz pursues her dream of becoming a witch by serving as Eda’s apprentice at the Owl House and ultimately finds a new family in an unlikely setting.

What is interesting is that we do not get any sound, just background music for the trailer, which leads me to think that they have not done any sort of casting for the voice actors and that we are still a long way out from that process. So once we realize that we just have the visuals to talk about, it allows us to focus on what we think we are seeing as we have no real confirmation from audio. We do get to see the friendship of Luz and Eda though and it looks like it is going to lead them on a lot of fun adventures. It also seems that we get to see King as well who is a tiny warrior, along with some other unnamed characters. Based on what we see of King though he looks like an amazing character and hopefully is the cause of a lot of laughter on the audience end.

Notice the Owl Lady reward poster as well, as these backgrounds are really complete and have a lot going on, while maintaining an animation style we like. While we have often thought the background of other shows were fun and complex, this looks like it is on another level here. We also love magic and there sure seems to be enough of that based on the short trailer.

What our hope is though for Owl House, is that we get a larger story, whether it is Luz trying to return home, or finding a magic power of her own, stopping a great even in the new world, something that keeps the story together and charging towards a goal. This looks to be a huge hit in our book, and based on the recent Disney Channel shows, they are really picking out some winners.

Have three kids, two boys (18 and 16) and a girl (12). I had a grandfather that watched cartoons and read the Sunday funnies until he passed. I feel the same way and continue to watch the Disney channel in my 40s. Check out our BSCKids youtube channel Current favorite show is Amphibia.
