Daan Creyghton spent some time speaking with us about his role on Nickelodeon’s “Hunter Street” as well as what else you has going on in his life. The Dutch actor currently resides in Amsterdam and plays the role of ‘Sal’ on the show.
Daan Creyghton is a Dutch actor who stars in the hit Nickelodeon show, “Hunter Street”. “Hunter Street” is one of the top five shows year-to-date with K6-11 across all TV…
BSCKids: Daan, tell us a bit about your character on Hunter Street? How did you get the role?
Daan Creyghton: My character, Sal is one of five foster children. In season 1, he was a shy nerdy kid and techie wiz who loves his family and wants to do anything to help them. He is definitely the brains of the family. In season 2, he has grown a bit and isn’t as shy anymore. He is funnier and becomes more social.
I booked the role after two auditions. English speaking boys in the Netherlands were asked if they would like to audition for a character in a new Nickelodeon show. I went to the first round looking as a tech wiz to the best of my abilities. I talked a lot with my little brother about tech since he is the brains of our family. I was so happy when I found out I made it to the last round. In this round, there were 3 more “Sals” auditioning. I also met Thomas and Kyra there. The casting agents wanted to see which characters fit best together as Hunter siblings. I am so thankful I was the lucky one.
BSCKids: How would you say you are a bit like Sal and also a bit unlike Sal in real life?
Daan Creyghton: When I am asked this question, I always think I am the total opposite of Sal – I am not a tech kid at all and certainly not the brains of the family. However, there are things I have in common with Sal. Family is really important to him and my Family is very important to me. In season 1, Sal has 4 siblings and is the fourth in age. I also have 4 siblings and I am the fourth in age. Character-wise, I am more outgoing than Sal and I love to chill with friends instead of inventing tech stuff. Furthermore, I have a different clothing style.
BSCKids: If you had to solve a mystery, which of your friends would you want with you and why?
Daan Creyghton: I would choose my friend who is really good with computers because I think that is really important and helpful to solve mysteries. He thinks in a certain way I would never think of. Next to him, I would choose my “friend” Russell (who is a dog). Furthermore, I would choose friends who are determined and are good team players and I know for sure I can have fun with.
BSCKids: Have you ever done an escape room?
Daan Creyghton: Yes I did in Amsterdam. We went to an escape room for my friend’s birthday party called Escape through the movies. As a group we had to work together to discover clues, solve puzzles and then race to the finale.
BSCKids: How much of the story do you know? Do the writers fill you in on the larger mystery or are you just as confused and surprised when you receive the scripts?
Daan Creyghton: The table reads are always exciting because that’s the moment we hear how the story will unfold. I am surprised every time when I read the scripts. Most of the time, I don’t see it coming but there are times it is kind of predictable what the next episode will be about.
BSCKids: If you could guest star on another Nickelodeon show, which one would it be and why?
Daan Creyghton: School of Rock. I love the cast but also like dancing and singing. The combination of acting, singing and dancing in that show would be amazing.
BSCKids: Can you tell us of any funny behind the scenes things that may have happened during filming?
Daan Creyghton: Kyra and I had to do a scene where we have to steal back a dress. We had to use a fishing rod to do that. It was really easy but they wanted it to look difficult so we had to do it over and over again.
BSCKids: What has been the most fun scene from Season 1?
Daan Creyghton: For me, it was the scene in the theatre where I was dressed as a Viking girl and had to come up with a dance to let it look like I was one of the performers in the theatre.
BSCKids: Who has helped you the most in your acting career? If you could give some acting advice to kids trying to make it in the business what would it be?
My parents and siblings. They support me in every way possible to do what I love most and encourage me to follow my dreams, but at the same time remind me to have fun.
My advice would be to be patient, to keep trying and most of all always believe in yourself and your instincts. Your time to shine will come.

BSCKids: What is one thing everyone would be surprised to learn about you?
Daan Creyghton: I love to customize cars.
BSCKids: What is one thing you never leave the house without?
Daan Creyghton: I never will leave the house without my phone. I always want to follow what’s happening on social media and my parents won’t be happy if they can’t get a hold of me if they need me.
BSCKids: Where can we find you on social media?
