We are excited to see that The Number One Dime has made its way into this series as it was something that we loved from both the comic and the original show. The dime has looked many different ways in each version of the story, but one thing that remains the same is that this is first coin that he earned and caused him to move to America to seek his fortune. There is a little talk from the comics that Fergus McDuck may have been the one to give Burt (the person that had his shoes shined) the coin to pay Scrooge with. The original series did not go into this much detail, this is from the comic version that we can reason this out.
How the dime will be portrayed will be interesting as we really do not get a full understanding if the dime itself brings Scrooge good luck (maybe even magical) or if it just has sentimental value to him only. The earlier cartoon seemed to make it feel like it was almost magical which is why Magica De Spell was always after it. She believed if she had the coin she would become the richest person in the world. We would love to see a Magica De Spell appearance in the new cartoon and are hopeful that the Number One Dime plays a huge part in many storylines for the new show.
You can watch the video below “DuckTales – The Great Dime Chase!” that shows Scrooge as a young shoeshine in Glasgow, working hard on his first customer and getting his Number One Dime, as the man gives him an American Dime. We believe in the original cartoon series, Scrooge refers to getting it in Scotland as well and the shoeshine part was the same. We love the style that they went with to give us that glimpse into Scrooge’s past. That is the dime that inspired Scrooge to move to America and find his fortune.
