Raven’s Home is coming to Disney Channel on July 21st at 10:00 PM and is going to be a sitcom for both kids and families to watch together. After it is on the Disney channel it will then be available on the Disney Channel App and other online venues from Disney. The show will then air normally on Fridays at 8:30 PM starting July 28th. For those that have not the “That’s So Raven” show will also be able to watch that starting June 1st on-demand on the Disney Channel App.

You will be able to check out Issac Ryan Brown (“black-ish,” “Miles from Tomorrowland”) as Booker; Navia Robinson (“Being Mary Jane”) as Nia; Jason Maybaum (“Superstore”) as Levi; and Sky Katz (“America’s Got Talent”) as Booker and Nia’s friend and neighbor Tess. We are huge fans of Sky Katz and we are really looking forward to her killing this role. They join Raven-Symoné and Anneliese van der Pol who comes back to reprise her role of Raven’s best friend Chelsea.

RAVEN-SYMONE´ – Disney Channel and Raven-Symoné are developing and beginning preliminary casting for a family sitcom that will continue the story of her character from the iconic series “That’s So Raven” for a new generation of kids, tweens and families. Raven will both executive-produce and reprise her role of the fan-favorite character Raven Baxter.

It has been a while since I have done a Hit or Miss and the first part of trying to figure out if Raven’s Home is going to be a hit or not is do some work by watching That’s So Raven episodes to know what I am starting with. Love the episodes that I got to watch and the premise of the show is pretty solid and fun. For Raven’s Home we still have Raven-Symoné having the same ability along with her son Booker. Raven will be using her adult powers to see the future to help her being a mother and helping the family, where Booker uses his power to help him through middle school, kind of what we saw with Raven in the original series.

So my gut tells me this is going to be a great show to watch, but where I worry a bit is if the show is going to try to be a family show and bring in the older audience or are they just going to try to shoot for a whole new show. I kind of felt that was one of the reasons that Girl Meets World really didn’t take off as much as Disney wanted. You can’t be two things to two different audiences. The other thing that leads me to be a little worried is why does Booker have a twin? I think that poor Nia is going to have a hard time since she does not have the same “gift” that Booker has, or maybe in the future she will get it as well, seems a bit weird though. Another issue, who is the star of the show? Is it Raven-Symoné or will it be Booker? For the audience they normally shoot for if they look to Raven-Symoné to carry the show it may not resonate with their demographic.

Normally I can tell right away if I think a show is going to be a hit or a miss, but this is one where I really can’t see the future and hope that the show establishes itself early in who the audience is. If it can do that, I love the short glimpses of the future being the device that leads the stories. It worked well in That’s So Raven, always leading itself to some really funny stories. A shame that Orlando Brown couldn’t make an appearance, because he was great as Eddie, but that is a whole different issue altogether. I am going to say, make sure you tune in, but we will have to see where this leads us.

Raven’s Home is going to be shown right after the premiere of the Disney Channel Original Movie “Descendants 2” (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on Disney Channel. Make sure you get ready to stay up late to watch both of these shows when they premiere.
