Once upon a time, not that long ago. June 5 of 2015 to be more specific. Fans of Disney’s beloved 2010 feature film Tangled were delighted with some grand news. A new series following the likes of Rapunzel and company was slated to arrive on Disney Channel sometime in 2017.
Since the news first broke over a year ago. We have only gotten very minor details and glance into the project. The most notable announcement was that the original voice cast of the film was reprising their roles for the series. And in an interview with Zachary Levi (Eugene himself). It was stated that the series is set to have seventy-eight episodes during a span of three seasons. No worries about the new adventures being short-lived.
Outside of that, well. Little has really been known. And with 2017 still off in the distance the only thing that could be done is to wait. And you know; get your frying pans ready.
Now that 2016 is slowly creeping to an end. The wait for “Tangled Ever After” is no longer endless. And we, finally, have our first look at the series. Check out the first official trailer for the new upcoming series!
The hype is real.
In case you missed the first announcement. “Tangled the Series,” formerly known as the working title “Tangled: Before Ever After” is set between the events of the 2010 feature film Tangled and the 2012 short “Tangled Ever After.”
The series follows Rapunzel as she reacquaints herself with her family and kingdom after years of being trapped in her tower. But being the spirited type she is. Rapunzel’s thirst for knowledge and adventure prompt her to want to learn more about the world. And that she needs to see before she embraced her destiny.
With that she puts her royal duties and marriage to Eugene on hold and sets forges ahead. Naturally with the company of Eugene, Pascal, Maximus, and The Snuggly Duckling Pub Thugs.
In addition to a sea of familiar faces a new character, Cassandra (voiced by Eden Espinosa) joins our main cast. Her notable first appearance in in this new trailer, as she is the other female helping Rapunzel with her hair. According to the information we currently have she is noted as being “a tough-as-nails handmaiden and set to become Rapunzel’s confidant”.
Despite the trailer only having an incredibly short running time of a mere fourteen seconds. It does off both a great glance at the series, but also gives us a good idea of what is to come. One of the big things that has been noted it Rapunzel’s hair. If you have seen the film you know why this is a critical plot point. So it is nice that they are addressing the return of her long blonde locks at the start.
And speaking for myself, I do absolutely love the art-style and animation. Because the film and short both used 3D it is a change to see everyone with this new style. But it does work well and looks fantastic. Very fluid. It looks like a story-book. Glad that this was not changed.
Looking back at my first impressions and general thoughts on the series from last year. I can honestly say that they are very much the same. I am even more excited now for the series. These characters are great and knowing them they are going to have quite the adventure on their hands.
One that will be a great ride for us all.
