Disney XD Characters Go Haunting

Disney XD Characters Go Haunting

It is that time of the year once again. With the calendar now turned to October the Halloween festivities are now in full swing. (You know, even if there is Christmas trees in the next isle over.)

With decorated pumpkins, hay rides, candy, scary films and costumes galore. There is a lot of excitement and fun to be had. Just like every year everyone is setting the mood with themed content. Saturday signalled the start of Disney’s month long celebration, “Monstober”.

During which Halloween themed or centred episodes and movies are proudly featured. New spooky themed episodes of “K.C Undercover”, “Best Friends Whenever”, “BUNK’D”, “Liv and Maddie: Cali Style”, “Bizaardvark”, and “Girl Meets World” are set to air. In addition to new the new series, “The Lodge”, and the one-hundredth and one Disney Channel Original Movie, “The Swap”.

Disney Channel has always been great about giving a variety of different content for their celebrations. And Monstober is no expect. But it is not the main Disney Channel that solely part takes in such affairs. Sister channels Disney Junior and Disney XD also do continue the trend with their own takes and content.

Yet it seems that neither goes quite as full out as the flagship channel. So when I came across the news that Disney XD was airing new original shorts during the Halloween season I was quite pleased.

Disney gave us a few details via a press release so this is what we know so far. Disney XD and Walt Disney Imagineering will be teaming up with renowned stop-motion house Stoopid Buddy Stoodios to release four Halloween themed TV spots in the iconic world of Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion. Two of the shorts will be presented ahead of their on-air debut.

The spots feature music and sound effects from the original Disneyland park attraction, with the original voices giving after-life to the Haunted Mansion haunts. According to the press release, the spots will feature the pun-filled tombstones lifted directly from the site along with a new original apparition, Baby Boo created just for these spots.

The press release DID announce when the spots would premiere. On Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, during the premiere of Milo Murphy’s Law, Star and Pony Head from Star vs. The Forces of Evil stumble into the wrong dimension and disturb Madame Leota from her restful trance.

Next Monday, October 10, at 6:30 p.m. ET/PT — during a spooky Halloween-themed episode — Pickle and Peanut search for their lost keys in the famous Haunted Mansion graveyard, where they meet brand new ghost Baby Boo and the infamous Hatbox Ghost. Check it out below.

I have to admit, that was kind of creepy. It is far from often you see three floating heads at once, or ever really.

Yet this is very interesting. Disney has a lot across different mediums and even between fiction and reality. Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, along with other classic attractions, is famous and recognizable. But it also has only had a very limited role in any work of fiction. So the combination of it and “Star vs. The Forces of Evil” is creative and fun. Seeing any two brands crossover is rare, and it makes it all the more enjoyable. It makes me look forward to the rest of the shorts.

Granted it would be nice to see a full fledge special like this with other animated characters. Who knows, maybe someday that might happen?
