At the end of last year world of the beloved and successful brand Monster High was slated to be rebooted. Since then a lot has happened on countless levels. The final doll lines and special (Great Scarier Reef) released. Acted as what fans are now referring to as the end of generation one.
During Toy Fair back in February fans were able to get their first detailed look at new the range of dolls. As well as a taste of what was to come with various teasers for the fall film.
Now months later, and to the delight of fans, the new dolls are starting to arrive in stores and online. And as of today fans finally get to see the full length trailer for Welcome to Monster High. Also noted as being the origin story.
See the trailer below and summary:
Ever Wonder How it All Began? Come on Inside….class is about to start.
Monsters once lived in hiding—even from each other—because they were afraid they would be in danger if humans knew they existed. But Draculaura, the daughter of Dracula, along with her best ghoulfriends, dreamt of a school where everyone was welcome and accepted for who they are. Determined to make their dream come true, the ghouls travel the world on an epic adventure to recruit new students. But even in this amazing place, there’s drama: a villainess zombie is spreading trouble rather than friendship, and every student must live with the fear that their secret will be revealed. Now the ghouls must save their school so that every monster has a place where they belong and their uniqueness is celebrated!
Before I even dive into the actual content of the trailer. Well, did anyone else notice something very interesting at the 1:41 mark? In similar vein of the upcoming Barbie Starlight Adventure film. Monster High’s newest tale will be gracing the silver screen.
And yes, it is somewhat ironic that this news is nearly a week apart.
I do find it be a striking move, even if it seems like it came out of nowhere. But I like it and hope that Mattel will keep hosting screenings. Monster High has a very large and diverse fandom. So an event like this really allows the fandom together is grand. There is nothing quite like being around others like yourself. Fangirling (or fanguying) to no end. A fact I can attest to.
Now shifting back to the trailer itself.
It right off the bat (pun intended) does a good job illustrating and summarizing what the story is about. Just the notable changes have me eager to see how things come together. The construction of the school, and why the monsters are in hiding stand out. Even though there has been a lot of changes make since Great Scarier Reef. It remains clear that the bond between our main ghouls has not altered.
One of the things that I have heard a lot of reactions on was the animation. Just with a glance you can see a massive change from what we are used to. It seems more fluid and is far more colourful. I find myself conflicted. But something tells me that a lot of this is based off the narrative. And until I actually see what Welcome to Monster High offers up it’s hard to make a judgment.
Because of that, look for a full review upon release.
As of now there is no link for ticket and location information. It is likely that it will appear in the coming days. Monster High is always very good about making information available. So they will surely post a link when it goes live. But a good guess is that things will be like that of Starlight Adventure and share locations.
Just like the former, Welcome to Monster High is a one day event on Saturday, August 27th. The DVD and Blu-Ray is already up for pre-order on Amazon to release one month later on September 27th.
With San Dingo’s Comic-Con International kicking off this weekend more news is on the way. And we will be covering it!
