The movie based on the video game “Minecraft” finally has an official release date. Warner Bros. Pictures and Mojang announced that the adaptation will hit the big screen Friday, May 24, 2019 while I am still not certain how or why an adaptation is happening for a glorified pixel game that wishes it was Lego. Interestingly, that is the same date that Warner Bros. had set aside for their Jason Segel-helmed LEGO adventure, The Billion Brick Race.
Minecraft the video game is one of the most popular games on all the different systems. It has passed 100 million registered users, is officially described as follows:
Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks. At first, people built structures to protect against nocturnal monsters, but as the game grew players worked together to create wonderful, imaginative things.
It can also be about adventuring with friends or watching the sun rise over a blocky ocean. Its pretty. Brave players battle terrible things in The Nether, which is more scary than pretty. You can also visit a land of mushrooms if it sounds more like your cup of tea.
The Minecraft Movie will be produced by Roy Lee and Jill Messick with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator, writer and star Rob McElhenney attached to direct.
