Disney’s Descendants Surges on With More Content

Disney’s Descendants Surges on With More Content

At this point is hard to argue just how massive Disney’s Descendants has become.

I know, like many others, have compared Descendants to that of High School Musical.  High School Musical was massive for my generation. Before that we never  had a cast of a brand go and do live tours. Never mind the shear and total amount of merchandise. It had been a rather big deal to own a HSM bedding set and everything else with the Wildcats’ faces.

But now, looking at just how far Descendants has come in not quite a year, that statement no longer fits. Descendants has far surpassed what their processor has done.

As I write this, the first season of Descendants’ Wicked Word ends with the Neon Lights Ball special.

Key words to note; first season.

That is right, Wicked World has now been green lit for a second season. Here are some noteworthy points from the official press release as published by Kidscreen.

Featuring three original songs and new characters, the second season of Descendants: Wicked World is slated to air this fall on Disney Channel…

The original season culminates on July 15 with a half-hour special featuring six back-to-back episodes that will also tease some storylines featured in the upcoming movie sequel Descendants 2, slated to head into production in the coming months.

There is a lot ahead for Mal, Evie and company as we see their adventures in Auradon continue. In the first season of Wicked World we did not see a great deal of music. With the Descendants’ roots being musical it was surprising. Looks like there is not going to be too long to wait for new music.

One of the most interesting aspect I find with this is the addition of more new characters. Disney is known well for their very distinct characters. Characters and their effortless storytelling is what makes them so iconic.  So it will be great to see their children and how similar and different they are to their parents. But at the same time I hope that there is a good balance between new characters and returning.

Speaking of teasing, however. Would you just know that the very day after this news had broke a teaser for the long awaited Descendants squeal was released? Yep. I half expected that, thus why I waited to write this.

Check out the teaser!

As short as the teaser is, there is quite a bit that can be gathered by it. As good as things have become for Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay, not everyone wants them to stay that way. In short, Ursula’s daughter Uma (China Anne McClain) seems to be keeping tabs on them. Do I have to sat that is not going to end well? For anyone at all, that is.

But Uma is not the only new character that we can expect to join the cast. Captain Hooks’ daughter CJ,  and Gaston’s children are noted to be part of the upcoming film. .  The latter who make their first appearance in Return to The Isle of the Lost.

As the sequel is not slated for release until sometime next year.  We probably are not going to get a lot more details now. They have yet to start filming.

In the meanwhile we have a short wait for more Wicked World. If that is not enough to fill your craving,  Joe Books might have something in mind.  You know, the talented people that have been bring us new Disney comics and cine stories.  Are slating a second volume in their Disney Descendants Cine Story line. The first volume now out.

Join the conversation: What are your thoughts on all this Disney Descendants news? What has you the most excited? What new characters do you hope to encounter next?
