Rejoice! One of the best animated films in the last 5 years is getting a sequel! Disney has officially announced that Wreck-It Ralph is getting a sequel and everyone is insanely excited.
The news was announced via a Disney Facebook Live session in which they showed off the first piece of concept art for the film. They also tweeted the image along with the announcement.
The idea that a sequel was on the horizon was teased earlier this year by John C. Reilly who voices the titular character, Ralph.
“It’s top secret but I’ll tell you this much… Ralph leaves the arcade and wrecks the Internet,” said Reilly. “What could go wrong?”
The Wreck-It Ralph sequel will see the return of Rich Moore to co-direct with Phil Johnston, who is credited as a writer on the first film. The original film earned $189 million in the U.S. and $500 million worldwide, making it the 12th-highest earning movie of 2012.
Wreck-It Ralph 2 is slated for a March 9, 2018 premiere.
