Disney’s Newest Series Bizaardvark Coming Soon to Network

Disney has, yet again, been making head-lines. Rightly so as there is a lot going on with the house of mouse.  With the upcoming marathons celebrating an impressive one-hundred Disney Channel Original Movies, and the next film in the growing line-up fast approaching all eyes on are on Disney Channel.

Like with a good percentage of the DCOMs, Disney Channel Original Movies, the film’s airing is not a solo affair. In the past Disney has taken advantage of the large viewership and introduced them to a new series after the film credits have finished.

The one-hundredth DCOM, Adventures in Babysitting a new take on the classic story, is slated to air on Friday, June 24th.  Featuring the likes of two of Disney’s biggest stars, Sabrina Carpenter and Sofia Carson, it is already clear that Adventures in Babysitting is going to be both awaited and likely to gain fantastic feedback.

Even with only a few trailers that have been released so far it seems like not only will Disney have another great film, but it will also be a hard act to follow.

And doing so is a new Disney Channel series, “Bizaardvark.”

And no, I did not misspell that title.

Here is the official information about the series, and the first episode:

The series is about best friends Paige and Frankie, who write funny songs and create music comedy videos for their online channel, “Bizaardvark.”

When they hit 10,000 subscribers, they’re invited to produce their videos at the influential Vuuugle Studios. In the series opener, Frankie and Paige begin to second guess their talents as they struggle to come up with ideas for a video they feel is good enough to present during their first VidView party at Vuuugle.

It is always interesting to see how a new series starting out. Playing around with all the potential that can be had as your mind goes wild.

Yet, “Bizaardvark” leaves me feeling…conflicted.

Just at a glance the summary has my mind flashing back to iCarly. iCarly, if you might recall, was a series about a teenage girl and her two friends that ran their own web-site and produced their own weekly live-stream comedy series. The series chronicled the characters’ lives as they broadcast themselves and what came along with being web star in addition to typical slice-of-life antics.

But it is not only the reminders of iCarly alone that leave me with askew feelings. Social media is without a question a massive part of life today regardless of how little or much you use it. With the countless and ever growing sites and apps being a recognized name online is not as incredibly challenging as it once was. Yes, it does take a lot of work, effort and even luck to become well-known. Getting ten-thousand subscribers is something to be proud of…but it is something that can be obtained.

Just the other day I overheard someone say that anyone can become a YouTuber, be famous. As ridged as it sounds, it is in some levels true. Anyone can create their own channel and make their own content. Even the most obscure topic that can pop into your mind you can probably find someone making videos on.

I do realize that I am being cynical, and perhaps harsher than necessary. It just is one of the instances where something has become so common that it is no longer distinct.

Just like with any story, “Bizaardvark” has the potential. But it is going to have to really have some strong characters to make an impact.
