With the Spring season kicking into gear (at least in some places), there is some super exciting news: “School of Rock” will be coming back for season two!

The new TV series premiered on March 12, 2016 and is based off the original film from 2003 starring Jack Black. The story follows the “misadventures of Dewey Finn, a rocker who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school as he teaches his unconventional and overachieving students to play and love rock ‘n’ roll.” However, the substitute is a wannabe rocker with not a lot of teaching experience.

Set in Austin, Texas,  it also focuses on a group of five 12-year-old students – Zack, Lawrence, Freddy, Summer and Tomika – who learn to take risks and are able to push their limits with the help of their substitute teacher through the use of the language of music by forming a band.

A couple of changes have been made between the movie and the series. In the movie, the story was told from the perspective of the teacher but in the show, it is all about the perspective of the students. Some of the characterization of the band members has also been altered. Despite some of these minor changes, the story is still the same but filled with more fun and adventure.

The first season just kicked into full gear with its fifth episode, Nickelodeon has already picked up the new season with 13 episodes – just as the first season. With sadly about 8 episodes left, there’s no need to worry because production for season two has already begun this month. Each episode features a musical performance some of which are well-known and contemporary songs.

Filled with fun and laughter, the show (just like the movie) is more than just a point of comedy and entertainment but with a message that everyone has the power to discover themselves and their hidden talents, friendship and more.

Both the film and the show portray the path of self-discovery, especially at a young age when we are trying to find who we are as a person. Even as we grow older, that can be tough but with a positive attitude and ambitions, anything is possible. With bumps along the way, it is about how we get through the misadventures and that is exactly what these musically talented students do.

If you haven’t already, be sure to catch the rest of the episodes of the first season every Saturday at 8:30 PM ET/PT on Nickelodeon!
