Big news this week for Nintendo fans and gamers. The iconic gaming company announced that they will soon cease production on their relatively popular console, the Wii U. The news broke via an industry expert Dr. Serkan Toto who posted this on Twitter:

1) The Nikkei just reports Nintendo will stop producing Wii U within 2016. It doesn’t say they will necessarily start selling NX in 2016.

He then added:

2) Acc. to the paper, some Wii U accessories are already not being produced anymore. Nintendo plans to deplete inventory this year. //end

This is truly unfortunate news as the Wii U has been a pretty popular console among children and parents. However, Nintendo is starting development on their next gen console, the NX, to replace the Wii U. The new NX is set to be unveiled sometime this year though Nintendo has not announced an anticipated release date for the console. They have not even said whether the new console will be available by the 2016 Christmas season.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is going to begin slowly phasing out the Wii U and depleting its inventory.
