High School Musical to Add Fourth Movie (And Now Casting)

High-School-Musical-Reunion

Remember back in January, when I wrote about how Disney’s massively successful film series, High School Musical was celebrating ten years? I very clearly said that who knows, maybe a week from now we will get news of a forth installment….

Well, I was right. Kind of.

High School Musical is getting a fourth film.

And I had not a single idea what I wrote that it would actually happen, this kind of thing with me writing or saying something left field has this strange way of becoming something unexpected.  It is how the plots of half my novels come about.

High School Musical, a film that came to mean so much to a generation and encouraged them to be themselves and break free of expectations placed on us all.  And was a great gateway into the world of preforming arts, theater and musicals for oh so many. Fans of the films watched the group lead by the likes of Troy and Gabriella grow and ultimately graduated high school as they set out to take on the world.

They had their story, their ups and downs. Now it is time for a new class to follow in those footsteps.

Being just announced we know little of just what fans and expect, or even when this might arrive.  Silver screen theater release? Disney Channel original movie? More likely the latter than the former, but we know extremely little.  Expect the following from the press release:

A nationwide casting search begins today for a planned Disney Channel Original Movie, High School Musical 4, that will continue the story of the global sensation High School Musical — and introduce new East High Wildcats and their cross-town school rivals, the West High Knights.

Disney Channel’s president, Gary Marsh offered the following statement in regards to the news, “High School Musical is part of Disney Channel’s DNA. It embodies all that we stand for. As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we’re excited to announce ‘the start of something new’ – as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise.”

Again, very minimal.  But it is noted that Jeffery Hornaday (Teen Beach Movie and Teen Beach 2) is attached to direct and choreograph, and the scripted is to be written by Dan Berendsen (Hannah Montana: The Movie, Teen Beach 2) and Peter Barsocchini (High School Musical 1-3).

Yet Kenny Ortega is not mentioned in news of this, perhaps it was too soon to state such or is he truly not involved in the project? Time will tell.

Because this is a new generation, Disney is seeking out new talent to fill out what is very likely to be a large and interesting cast for the film. A nationwide casting call is now live with full information to be posted at the following web addresses, www.disneychannel.com/opencall. Any specifics in regards to what they are looking for as far as age and the like are currently not live. If you are looking to take the stage yourself be sure to do so with permission from your parents or guardian.

There is something so strange about seeing something I remember getting way to hyped about when I was eleven return like this, and more so to write about like this.  No matter what is said about High School Musical it did something for people and caused a change. You cannot deny it. I just hope that this new group can do something like that for others.
