Hannah Montana Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Hannah Montana Celebrates 10th Anniversary

A few months ago we were pumped and full of what had quickly became one of the most popular with the past decade for Disney Channel, High School Musical. Yet it is not only that of the musical filled halls of East High School that prove to be filled with celebration ten years later.

Last week, on March 24, marked a ten year celebration of another, still relevant, series for Disney’s main network. You guess it, “Hannah Montana.”

Even after so long after the series ended its run Hannah Montana has somehow always remained to a certain extent a fixture of modern pop culture. From time to time you will still see nods to the series. But this could also be due to the over-all success of the various cast members of the series.

For any of our readers that might not be as acquainted with the series as some, here is a recap for you. Hannah Montana chronicles the life of a moderately normal teenage girl as she, along with her friends and family, tries to make her way through life, school, friendships- and naturally romance. But as normal as this native Tennessee teen looks she bares a massive secret; she is also Hannah Montana. A massively successful and famous singer that seemingly everyone Miley encounters has a great deal of knowledge about. But no one notices that it is her…in a blonde wig.

Each episode of the series dealt with something relating to Miley’s life as Miley or Hannah- often times leading them to collide and hijinks to follow. But at the same time it didn’t shy away from giving the other members of the main cast a chance to develop.

A lot like High School Musical, “Hannah Montana” took off and mind-blowingly fast at that. During the first nation-wide concert where Hannah Montana and Miley (as her true self Miley Cyrus) severed as a head-liner tickets sold out a record numbers and fans struggled to obtain tickets. Due to out-cry Disney recorded some of the concert footage and did a special select theater screenings under the name “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert”. Not only did showings of that sell out the DVD version was nearly impossible for a while to find at relaters after release (trust me on that, I hunted for my copy that I have since parted with!).

With that kind of success, additional albums followed as did a full-length feature length film know as Hannah Montana the Movie followed. It wasn’t until four seasons in did Hannah Montana end with a chapter ending final on January 16th, 2011.

Just looking back on the series know it amazes me just how massive it became, and how fast. I am a bit ashamed to say I was a massive junkie on the series back in the day. But that fact I still have every single CD on my iPod probably remains a good testament to that fact.

Nevertheless, Hannah Montana was one of the biggest series for Disney. My then eleven-year-old self could have probably better summed up just what acted as the greatest attraction to the series in record time.  But now I cannot see as clearly why I, much like millions of others, loved it so. Perhaps it was just how relatable Miley’s desire for a normal life and friends where, the glamour of being a super star or was it the music that stayed stuck in your mind for weeks on end.

I cannot tell you the last time I watched the series was, so comment on how it stands up so long after is hard to say. Maybe we all need to re-watch it and see just what it means to have the best of both words.

But if we do get a reboot or continuation my jaw will be dropped- there is no way everything I say by chance can actually happen…right?
