Sesame Street Is Coming Back Bigger & Better On HBO!

Sesame Street Is Coming Back Bigger & Better On HBO!

No matter how old we may get or how much we may grow out of our old habits, the famous childhood show, “Sesame Street,” will never get old.

It feels like “Sesame Street” has been around for ages and it sure won’t be going anywhere anytime soon, except to a new network. The program is coming back bigger and better with all new episodes to air on HBO.

For more than 40 years, the program aired on PBS. The switch was made back in August when Sesame Workshop made a deal with HBO to host the next five seasons due to financial challenges PBS was facing in funding the show to produce more episodes. Not only will HBO be the new home for the show but the number of episodes has been moved up from 16 to 35 episodes a year, all of which will make it to PBS at some point after they air on HBO. To spice things up even more, about 150 old episodes of Sesame Street will also air in addition to the new ones.

One large change, other than “Sesame Street” being on a new channel, is that HBO, a cable network, will require parents to pay for the channel, if they do not have it already, in comparison to when the educational children’s program was free to all on PBS. The switch from PBS to HBO is a big change but one of the main concerns about new ownership is whether or not the overall feel, vibe and style of the show will change.

However, by the looks of the first trailer for the new season, which was released on Christmas Eve, it seems like things will be staying just the way they are. Phew! Our favorite classic characters like Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, and the Count will be making appearances as well!

Although “Sesame Street” will be under new ownership, I don’t doubt that the show will lose it’s true heart and value that it’s held for over 40 years. Only time will tell if new changes are in Sesame’s destiny but for now, we can only wait and look forward to the new season which we can get a sneak peek at with at the new season trailer in the video below. The trailer features a number of celebrity cameos from stars like Pharrell Williams, Jon Hamm, Tina Fey and Tracee Ellis Ross. And of course, we can’t forget about the much needed Star Wars sketch.

The first season of “Sesame Street” on the new network is quickly approaching! This also marks the 46th season of the show and will come in with a bang with a premiere that will offer not just one episode but two half-hour episodes! Be sure to tune in for new episodes beginning Saturday, January 16 at 9 AM.
