Summer’s over and fall is officially here! Tell me, who doesn’t enjoy fall? It’s the season where you get to pull those fleeces out from the back of the closet as the weather cools down. The time where all the leaves of the trees change color, falling to the ground to looking like a grounded sunset. It’s also the time you build a fresh start for a new school year.
Even though your summer vacation is over and school is back in session, it doesn’t mean that fall’s a downer. Personally, this season is my favorite time out of all of them. Sure it partially represents more “Me Time” while kids are in school and that To-Do list comes in handy to keep a person busy all day long. But the best part is where the weather is so nice and cool that families can enjoy the outdoors a whole lot more when nature is at its most beautiful.
Fall is a season that represents a time for change. Your summer clothes got to get packed away, no more trips to the beach (unless you live in an always warm climate), time is lessened to play outside as night comes quickly and so on. Fortunately, though you may have a bit of a negative outlook on the season (my kids never want summer to end), remember that there’s still so much to see, so much to do and a lot of fun to be had.
Just remember, there is a whole world of fall fun that you and your families could easily enjoy. Even stuff you do during the summer can overlap into this cool season. Summer was a time for vacations, tanning at the beach, road trips, cool beverages, pool parties, yard sales and more. A few of these can still be done in fall, at least during the early part of the season, but it will get colder.
I know I always make sure my kids get the best of fall since it’s my favorite time of year. Though we can’t really go on long vacations due to school or go swimming at the community pool, I can think of a ton of fun things that make me and my family prove you can probably have more fun at this time than others. Do you wanna know my fall lifestyle? Check out what my family does for fun, celebrations, and more!
PUMPKINS
It’s the season for “Pumpkin Everything”! Certainly most people enjoy pumpkins no matter what form it takes! You can easily visit pumpkin patches, drink a pumpkin latte, eat pumpkin pie or roasted pumpkin seeds! Maybe buy a pumpkin or two to decorate for fall!
GO HIKING
There’s nothing that makes me feel better than going on a hike, or even bike ride on the local trail. Seeing so many things I might have never seen before makes me happy. By hiking you can see all the animals already preparing for the winter and an abundance of fall foliage. Not only can you see Mother Nature at her finest, but you’ll get in some great exercise! Just remember to wear a coat, it might get cool!
HALLOWEEN
Yep! In less than a month, you’ll be able to dress as someone else for a night, go door to door and pick up some free treats! Yes, Halloween! This is the best part of fall for a lot of people. It’s a lot of fun when you get to pull that bin of decorations out of the storage closet and go crazy decorating your house with ghosts, witches, ghouls, spiders, scarecrows and more!
FOUR-WHEELING
Don’t feel like hiking or biking? Then, if available, check out going four-wheeling! Sure, it’s fun in the summer but it’s also great for fall fun! My family goes into the mountains to visit my uncle sometimes and we go four-wheeling all around the large property. We’re able to see nature: bears, deer, trees and lovely sunsets. Plus, racing’s fun when you’re in the right area! Just remember to be careful and wear your helmet!
CAMPING
What’s fall without camping? The cooler the weather, the better for me! Camping should be fun, not complaining about the intense heat where you can’t even plug in a fan or air conditioner. Being able to snuggle up to a campfire at night and tell some creepy tales to put chills up the spine is so much fun! Plus, you can make it a weekend trip, even with school in session!
APPLES
One of the treats of fall: Apples! Fall is also a time when apples ripen for harvesting! I remember going to a local apple orchard and picked apples. Afterward, they did the process of turning them into apple cider, yummy! You can also create apple treats like candy apples or apple pie! (My mouth is watering!)
CORN MAZE/HAYRIDES
Check out your local farm areas. A lot of them might have corn mazes and hayrides you are able to take during the day. Sometimes, there’s even pumpkin patches to pick pumpkins. Corn mazes are a lot of fun. We used to do them using a scavenger hunt which made it even better. Hayrides around the farmland made an excellent time to admire nature as well. Getting into the back of a trailer to sit on hay bales while being pulled by a tractor makes them a lot of fun! Especially for young kids!
BONFIRES
Yeah, this might actually work in with the camping fun, but if you can’t get a weekend away, your area might have some kind of bonfire nights to celebrate fall with food, drinks, dancing and marshmallows galore
LEAF-JUMPING
Nothing says fall like jumping in a big pile of leaves right in your front/back yard! Just grab a rake, shovel or even your bare hands to push them all together in a great big pile! Then, take the a step and JUMP! Woosh, so many leaves everywhere!
HARVEST EVENTS
Check out your local community to see if they might have some festival going on! Harvest/Fall Festivals are the highlight in my family’s fun time! Sometimes there’s food, face painting, games or vendors selling some autumn goods!
CREATIVE WITH NATURE
Get your imagination and creativity rolling for some fun! Gather some pretty leaves or pinecones to create a fall centerpiece for your home or even your room! It’s always fun to bring fall inside!
ORGANIZING
Doesn’t sound like much fun, huh? But it can be fun! If there’s a day when you can’t get outside, then see about doing some organization in your house. You’ve heard of spring-cleaning? Well, you can get fall-cleaning! Organizing that storage closet that has a lot of stuff thrown in would be fun to put together!
CHALK THE SIDEWALK
Without that summer heat forcing you indoors, a brisk breezy day can be fun for you to go out and do some chalk murals or create games! Playing Hopscotch without breaking a sweat is nice indeed!
SCAVENGER HUNT
Ask your parents or someone older to help you create a fun scavenger hunt fall-style! It’s a fun game to play when you’re outdoors playing or ready to walk around. Read the clues and find that object! So much fun!
YARD SALE
Summer is usually the season for yard sales, but moves into fall just as easily! Get your local paper or check online for any yard or garage sales happening. Then, gather in the car and hit the road! Going to these sales are always fun because you can find things you’ve been needing, been wanting or something that might be interesting. Plus, you get it for a very good price! It’s also an easy way or paying it forward, giving something to someone who might need it more than you do.
PHOTOS
What’s also a great way to have fun in fall? By taking lots and lots of photos! Get out there and take some fun pictures of you, your family and friends around nature. Take pictures of nature itself. You’d be surprised at all the amazing photos one can take that are fantastic! While you’re at it, create a scrapbook for them and enjoy looking back on the memories!
THANKSGIVING
November is also a fall month which means Thanksgiving! For those who celebrate this national holiday, you’ll have fun decorating, cooking and eating!
KEEP A JOURNAL/WRITE A STORY
On some days you want to keep yourself occupied by writing down anything you want. Tell about that trip to the local historical site. Write about what you’ve seen on your hike today. Make up a story about that cute little squirrel carrying the acorns up the tree. It’s so much fun when you can pull your imagination out and be creative!
Just by glancing, can’t you tell how much fun you can have this fall? Enjoy celebrations, those weekend camp outs, the hikes on the trail or just simply jumping in leaves! How ever you spend this fall season, just make sure to have a lot of fun! I know I do!
Tell us what you do during fall!
