Walt Disney Studio Animation debuted the first teaser poster for its new and upcoming animated movie, Zootopia.
Based off the released poster, the setting appears to reflect Times Square in New York City. In the world of Zootopia, the modern metropolis is a city like no other. Just as in our world, the city is a melting pot where people of different diversities and ethnic backgrounds live in harmony. In Zootopia, no humans exist and it is the place where animals of all shapes, sizes and species live together in the same environment with habitat neighborhoods like Sahara Square and Tundratown. No matter what you are, it is a place that all animals can belong. In this big city, two small animals make their way for quite the action-filled adventure.
The film, directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore, follows a bunny who is also a police officer, Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) who arrives at the big metropolis city. As a bunny in the police force made up of big and tough animals, she must prove herself and tries to crack at case when given the opportunity. However, she meets a fox, Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) and the two end up teaming up to unravel a larger issue.
I must say, I like the decision the producers and directors made in their name choice. Judy Hopps is a bunny and bunnies are known for hopping around. The play on words with hops and Hopps is brilliant. The same goes with Nick Wilde, the fox. Fox are known to be wild and the character in the movie seems to have a wild side to him as well. It is very clever! Also featured in the film is Shakira who voices Gazelle.
I also found it interesting to see all the fun animal-based puns. We see “Just Zoo It” which comes from Nike’s “Just Do It,” “Bearberry” and not Burberry. Even in the advertisement in the middle of the poster where we see Sharika’s Gazelle character, the name of the brand is Preyda in comparison to Prada. Even the walking sign is in the shape of an animal rather than a person. There was definitely a lot of creative effort involved.
Here is a brief summary of the movie:
“In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who’s trying to make it big goes on the run when he’s framed for a crime he didn’t commit. Zootopia’s top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they’re forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.”
Although it’s still awhile away, mark your calendars now! Zootopia hits theaters on March 4th, 2016.
