Back in mid-January, Disney Channel gave us a fantastic new series to look forward to: “KC Undercover” starring the one and only (and totally awesome) Zendaya. If you’ve never heard of “KC Undercover” here’s the lowdown:
KC Undercover is a Disney Channel series that follows the story of a teenager named K.C. and her family. She was a normal girl, at least she thought she was until she was kidnapped by the government only to find out she’d been recruited to become an undercover spy like her own parents.
Sounds pretty cool, right?
It’s not only pretty cool, it’s way cool! A couple of little girls actually reminded me about this show a few days ago when I went out to the store. Weaving in and out of aisles, the two girls were looking a bit sneaky. I thought they were hiding from their parents only to find out they’d been playing a ‘spy game’. Honestly, they reminded me of those movies ‘Spy Kids’ from years ago. The cuteness pulled me in when I asked them about their game. One of them said their name was “K.C.” and they were undercover to stop a mad scientist from exploding fruits and vegetables in stores. (Totally strange, but seriously cute).
Of course, when you’re a little kid, you’re asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Most answers you get are firefighters, cops, lawyers, truck drivers. And somewhere in there is the occasional “I wanna be a spy” which these two kids wanted to be. If you think on it, how cool would it be to be a spy? Would it be everything they imagined it could be or a big flop?
Any kid of this generation who wants to be a spy can look to “K.C. Undercover” for all their spy questions. The series takes on a life of its own as its own little world is shown weekly to viewers. According to the series, it shows that it’s not easy to balance the normalcy of life with deceiving others disguised as someone you’re not. K.C.’s supposed to be this normal teenage girl going through all normal teenage problems. However, with her high intelligence and whooping some keister with a black belt, normalcy for her is probably overrated.
Sure she’s got the regular teenage drama: her best friend Marisa, dating and high school drama-rama. But keeping from kicking a villain’s butt while your friend is standing in front of you doesn’t really help anything. It’s either go after the villain or keep your friend continuously in the dark. Do you pass your driver’s test or run down the speeding mad scientist
Though it may seem a teenage spy’s life is a bit over the top in the series, the comedic missions make up for it. Along with some of the coolest gadgets and accessories known to this generation. A few include:
- Laser lipstick! Is your makeup smeared but hands are cuffed? It’s totally okay! Just reach into that secret pocket on your dress and remove the laser lipstick. Easily escape from cuffs while at the same time applying a new lovely shade of red to your lips. This gadget was used in the episode “Doublecross” (and not with this scenario).
- Identification Glasses! Need help identifying the strange person who ruined the school talent show? Use these identification glasses! Each person you view helps match your suspect. You’ll find the right one. Oh, and can’t forget about the built-in x-ray vision! This gadget was used in the pilot episode to identify the teenage spy for the other side. K.C not only used these to find him, but had a bit of fun with the x-ray part, too.
- Disguises! Of course you can’t be undercover without being a master of disguise! K.C does plenty of this throughout the course of the series. Many of her undercover guises included a punk rocker, classy lady, flight attendant, ballet student and more! She’s got these all down pat, though the comedic relief following her says otherwise.
- Android Sibling! What would you think of having a robot for a sibling? Sure they woldn’t be your real sibling, but come on! A robot! Introducing “Judy” in the second episode of K.C. Undercover was awesome! With K.C.s sibling, Ernie not exactly the best candidate to become a spy (proving them wrong later on), they inform the teens about their new robotic sister. I mean, what would a spy be without an android on their side?
- Spy Watch! Recalling the first episode, K.C used this awesome accessory/gadget for listening in on people’s conversations and using it as a communicator. Definitely two very useful things! Though you could say listening in as people are talking would be a bit nosy right? But why complain when they’re trying to complete a mission?
So, what are you thinking? Would a career as a teenage spy work for you? For me, it probably wouldn’t work out so well. Never was the type to dress up or wear make-up. But I’d totally dig the android sibling!
What about you? Is spy the right career choice for you?
