Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a twin brother or sister? To look, talk, or perhaps, even think alike? I certainly have at one point, wondering how a person who is a mirrored reflection of myself might make their way in life. Would it be like mine or the exact opposite? There are definitely twin siblings out there that may or may not look alike and have accustomed themselves to different lifestyles.
I, myself, raise twins and they are complete opposites of one another. One enjoys the athletic lifestyle – playing baseball, lacrosse and other sports – while his brother enjoys using his imagination in very innovative ways with drawing or music. Sometimes I am amazed at how surprisingly different they are.
Of course, my twins aren’t the only ones out there. It might be rare to see them in your neighborhood, but you can definitely find them just by turning on your television or checking out the big screen.
Shows such as Disney’s “The Suite Life“ (starring Dylan and Cole Sprouse) or the old school series Full House (starring Dylan & Blake Tuomy-Wilhoi) have popular twin sets. And movies starring Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen definitely top the list! Even Disney’s The Parent Trap films feature twins as the main stars! Though it may come as a surprise, the twin roles were actually played by one single actress and not siblings. The 1961 original starred Hayley Mills while the 1998 remake featured Lindsay Lohan.
Even with the many popular series or films out there with twin protagonists, there’s always going to be your most favorite out of every single one. Whether played by real-life twins or a single person handling a double role, one is always going to triumph at the top of your list.
As for me, the pair that pulls me to make them the number one coolest twins in my book is none other than the humorous duo, Liv and Maddie Rooney from Disney Channel’s hit television series, “Liv & Maddie!” Both Liv and Maddie, though twins onscreen, are played by actress/singer Dove Cameron.
If you’re not familiar with this newly famous onscreen twin pair, you’re about to be! The series premiered in 2013 on Disney Channel. It tells the story of Liv and Maddie, twin sisters who are exact opposites, readjusting to life living together after four years apart. Liv, a famous actress, leaving the Hollywood scene to go back home, and Maddie, an outstanding and athletic student, once again live under the same roof.
The creators of the show, already nearing the end of its second season, have characterized Liv and Maddie outstandingly. They ought to be applauded for such unique characters and how they have showed their growth throughout the series! They feature the right amount of reality — high school, family, sibling rivalry, friendships — with a hilarious twist on everyday teenage scenarios like getting your driver’s license, cleaning your room, dating, and a whole lot more!
This set of twins were created to be identical, however, their personalities and lifestyles are entirely different from one another. How different? Well, Maddie would be the tomboy of this duo compared to Liv who fancies all the girly things in life, a diva you could say. While Maddie’s famous for being a basketball phenomenon and upstanding student around her school, Liv one ups her being famous nationwide as an actress well-known for her TV show, Sing It Loud!. And when it comes to emotions, Maddie sometimes has a tendency to keep feelings to herself while Liv happily announces her own to the world.
With these opposites, they attract an amazing amount of humor in each episode that can leave anybody laughing for hours! But even with their lives clashing head to head, both share similar traits (other than appearance) such as popularity level, kindness, and hearts full of love for family and friends. Both will show off a certain level of maturity in different situations, but their personalities won’t let it last long. Most of the time, their charm, wit and thoughtfulness are what they count on in situations. Yet most of all, they can also count on each other.
Honestly, it’s hard not to adore these polar opposites after everything mentioned. Though Liv’s semi self-centered nature or Maddie’s growing ego to win all the time might put someone off, it’s easy to shove it aside and look at the positive details concerning them. They actually remind me of my twins. They’re the female version of my boys and I guess that’s what attracted them to me.
All in all, with everything I know about these two characters, I got to say this: Liv and Maddie Rooney are the coolest twins onscreen, chances are, I won’t ever change my mind about that!
You can catch Disney’s “Liv & Maddie” Sundays at 8/7c only on Disney Channel!
