I will be the first to admit that I have played and beat Plants Vs. Zombies on every playable format currently available. So my excitement at the release of its sequel is, well, high. PopCap has officially announced that Plants vs. Zombies 2: It’s About Time will hit iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch worldwide on July 18th. The game will be free-to-play with upgrades and in-game items available for purchase, though PopCap notes that “players can face every zombie and access every level in every world at no cost.”
Much like its predecessor, Plants vs. Zombies 2 will continue the ongoing battle of protecting your home against the horde of backyard zombies. However, what makes the sequel new and different is that the struggle will take place through “the vast reaches of time, both past and future.” The game will offer dozens of levels and several themed worlds to play in as well new plants and new zombies. Also announced was an “all-new touch-screen power-ups that enable players to ‘break the fourth wall’ and interact with zombies directly, as well as via plant defenses.”
PopCap confirmed that some of the unique worlds players would be able to battle in would include Ancient Egypt, Pirate Seas and the Wild West. PopCap also notes that merchant Crazy Dave will also return, offering “special plant upgrades and other tools and weapons.” Players will also be able to obtain plant food that “supercharges” plants.
Allen Murray, senior producer, said,
“We’re confident that players will see the love and attention we’ve put into this game. We’ve created wild new ways to experience the plants and zombies you know and love as well as packing the game with tons of completely new content, and we’re still hard at work coming up with even more cool stuff that will keep Plants vs. Zombies 2 fresh and evolving in the months and years following launch.”
