The LA indie music scene is getting many new admissions but none quite like that of Caught a Ghost. Their fresh blues sound harmonizes with electric beats and not to mention a horn section and projections. Caught A Ghost is the new project from LA songwriter and producer Jesse Nolan.
The band features Nolan’s kindergarten classmate Stephen Edelstein on drums and the beautiful and sultry vocals/percussions from actress Tessa Thompson. Blending classic Motown compositions with influences from Dubstep, 90’s rap, and contemporary electronic, listeners get a uniquely modern take on the blues and soul music.
“Very few are foolish enough to try fusing blues and soul with dubstep, and nearly no one will make it sound as good as this… it made us sit up and listen. Like peanut butter, bacon, and banana sandwiches, it shouldn’t work, but for some reason it does. – LA Weekly
Caught A Ghost plans to release a debut EP later this year but they have recently debuted a hauntingly beautiful new video for their cover of Sam Cooke’s classic song, “You Send Me.” The video was filmed by Nolan and a friend using only one camera and an industrial light.
The cover of “You Send Me” is available as a free download at their official website. Fans who are in Southern California can see Caught A Ghost on monday nights in May for free at The Satellite venue.
