Sarah
June 5, 2016

BSCkids recently got a chance to chat with Chloe East, one of the newest stars of Disney!

East is not just an actress. She started modeling at the age of nine, and is an accomplished young dancer, is a multi-threat who also has a dance clothing line and her original YouTube channel. On her YouTube channel, she posts regularly, and indulgences in her love for cooking, vlogging, fashion, tutorials, and just filming fun! She loves to take popular videos and puts her own ‘Chloe’ twist, filming and editing most everything herself.

She is featured on Nordstrom’s, Bloomingdales, Zara Terez, Miss Behave Girls and Discount Dance. An accomplished dancer, trained in tap, hip hop, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, and pointe, Chloe has won six titles and many 1st place wins in contemporary, jazz, ballet and pointe work. Simultaneously, she got started in musical theater at the age of five and soon transitioned into acting and theater, having appeared in stage productions such as “Annie,” “The Nutcracker,” and “Wait Until Dark,” a thriller, which was adapted into a film in 1967 starring Audrey Hepburn. At 11 Chloe made her television debut on the hit HBO series “True Blood” playing Sheriff Andy’s daughter.

East can be seen in the upcoming MarVista film “Jessica Darling’s It List” as the lead Jessica Darling, a smart, witty, opinionated girl heading into the 7th grade. But before ‘Jessica’ does, her popular sister ‘Bethany’ gives her the “It List,” a cheat sheet on how to navigate middle school. The film is based on the book, “Jessica Darling’s It List: the “(Totally Not) Guaranteed Guide to Popularity, Prettiness and Perfection,” written by Megan McCafferty.

You can watch the trailer  for Jessica Darlings It List here. East can also be found on Instagram and Twitter.

BSCKIDS: Chloe East

You are the newest lead “Jessica Darling” in the upcoming MarVista film “Jessica Darling’s It List” What can you tell us about the project?

Jessica Darlings It List is a film based on a book series written by NY Times best selling author Megan McCafferty.

Do you share any similarities with your character? How do you prepare for shooting a scene?

I do share some similarities with Jessica. We both love to dress casual by wearing t shirts, jeans and converse and we both love school. Preparation before filming  is really important. I make sure I know my lines.

It is based on a book as well. Did you read it before shooting the film in order to get in character?

I did not read the book prior to filming. I loved reading the books after we wrapped. They are so good. There are 3 It Lists.

What do you think will draw audiences to the film or story? I think everyone will relate to this film. It’s about friendship and staying true to yourself.

You joined this summer’s premiere of “Liv &Maddie.” What can you tell us about the premiere and you role on the series?

I will be joining the cast in season 4. There are some exciting new changes coming up in season 4. I love my character on the show. She loves school which is similar to Jessica Darling.

Were you a fan of the show before joining?

Yes. I’ve always loved Liv And Maddie. It’s a very unique show and no other show out there like it. When we shoot scenes with both Liv And Maddie we have to shoot it twice with Dove Cameron who plays both roles. It’s pretty amazing to watch them film with Emmy and Shelby (Maddie2 and Liv2) They are so talented and learn all the lines and match everything Dove is doing. It’s really amazing! The 3 of them have been working together for years and work so well together. It’s so cool how they edit the scenes so perfectly.

Tell us about your YouTube channel. What kind of videos do you upload to it and how many hours have you dedicated to it?

I have a bunch of different videos on my YouTube channel. One week I did a Then vs Now video and the next week I decided to do edible slime. I spend many hours filming and editing my videos. I like to get a video up once a week on either my main channel Chloe East or my Vlog channel Chloe East Vlogs.

What is your favorite kind of video to post and why?

That’s a hard question to answer. One of my favorites to film was my 5 weird Coca Cola uses.

You act, dance, work with clothing. Since you work in so many different aspects of creativity, which is your favorite?

I love them all. I’m acting a lot this year and I love it!

What do you do in your free time?

I love musicals. I saw 3 this week. I flew to NY just to see Hamilton. I’m a bit obsessed with the show.

What has been your favorite project so far to work on and why?

Everything I’ve worked on has been a favorite!!

Do you plan to continue working in  contemporary, jazz, ballet and pointe work while you act?

I really try. I live close to a few excellent dance studios and sometimes after work I go straight there.

You will be attending this year’s VIDCON, in Anaheim, California June 23-25. Have you ever been to a convention before? Are you nervous or excited?

Yes I will be attending VidCon. I had a meet up at VidCon last year and I’m having one this year too so stayed tuned for more info on my Instagram. It’s so much fun. I can’t wait.

Do you have any advice for young actresses or dancers who are working hard to make it?

Just keep working hard. Be positive and supportive with everyone you train or work with.  Practice makes perfect. Don’t give up. Do what you love. Don’t compare yourself with others. Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way. There’s plenty of room for everyone.
