Final Season of Mako Mermaids Swims to Netflix

Final Season of Mako Mermaids Swims to Netflix

The H2O series has been a massive hit all around the globe. From the original adventures of once ordinary girls Emma, Cloe and Rikki fans have been enchanted by the mystical Mako Island and the secrets of mermaids.  So much so that even years after the final season of H20: Just Add Water ended more was added to this magical world.

Last summer fans meet new, revisited versions of the famed threesome in the animated series H20: Mermaid adventures. A twenty-six episode series that explored a different angle of just what becoming a mermaid could be, and the adventures.

But before that was Mako Mermaids. What started out as a Netflix original series here in the States has transitioned into a popular series aired on Disney’s main network. Since the first airing on Disney Channel at the start of the year the series has really become far more prominent.

If you might recall back when it was first announced that Mako Mermaids was slated to air on Disney Channel, I had specifically mentioned that the final season of the series was slated for a release sometime during the spring.

On May twenty-seventh the third and final season of the series arrives on Netflix.  Perfectly in-sync with the Austrian broadcast of the sixteen episode season. One that might just be more exciting and thrilling than the previous.

Life is trouble-free on Mako Island – until Ondina meets Weilan, a mermaid from the Eastern pod. They immediately clash and Mimmi must act as peacemaker. But a greater threat to their peace has arrived, in the form of a fearsome Chinese water dragon that once destroyed the Eastern pod. But the dragon is not all it appears to be. On their perilous quest to defeat the dragon, Zac and the mermaids discover shocking secrets until a final confrontation reveals all.

With the final act before then Mako Mermaids is really setting themselves up for a grand exit.  Yet the most rewarding part of the final season is a great nod to the roots of how everything came to be. During the actual production it was teased that one of the original cast members was slated to have some role within the final season of Mako Mermaids.

Much too many fans’ delight the rumors and teasing was in fact true as it was confirmed that Rikki (Cariba Heine) will reappear. Rather than maintain Rikki as the teenager we knew and loved her as, fans are united with a now adult version of herself. One that is long since been without her friends. Being described as; hiding her true identity behind the guise of a mysterious diver who recovers strange and wonderful artifacts from the deep oceans. She tours the world, lecturing about her finds and signing copies of her books, hoping that one day she will find replacements for the friends she has lost.

Really makes you question just what has happened between Rikki and her friends. Even though there is fairly little known about the last season it is poised to be an exciting one that will leave fans wanting more.

Which leads into the biggest question of all; will this be the end to the tales from Mako Island? The entire H20 brand (Just Add Water, Mako Mermaids and Mermaid Adventures) has a fantastic and deeply woven lore with endless possibilities of what could happen. With no addition spin-off even mentioned anywhere, nor any news of additional seasons of Mermaid Adventures it seems like this is the end. At least for now.

If that is so, at the very least we have gotten one magical ride.
