Despite being around for decades and generating generations of fans, you might say that the My Little Pony franchise is perhaps, stronger than ever. When you hear the words ‘My Little Pony’ a few different things might be running through your mind; the pastel colored ponies you recalled playing with, the small toys you received in various Happy Meals, or even the box of toys dating back from a family member’s own youth. My Little Pony has been a classic for generations, ever since the brand’s early days these ponies have found themselves enchanting viewers.
A fact that remains true as the current generation’s (‘G4’) incantation, Friendship is Magic trots to their hundredth episode. A mile-stone for any series.
Friendship is Magic, (our current incarnation of the classic series) chronicles the life of Twilight Sparkle, a studious uniron- latter turned alicorn princess- as she learns and studies the magic of friendship with the aid of her friends, laughed filled party loving Pinkie Pie, alethic and loyal Rainbow Dash, the ever stylish and generous Rarity, Applejack a hard-working pony that is as honest as they come and caring and kind-hearted Fluttershy. Together the mane six mange to stand together to overcome what obstacles come their way, learn a thing or two about friendship and life, and grown along the way. Despite acting as the series’ primary lead, the majority of the series finds itself centering on all six of the mane six in addition to several other notable characters.
Even though a majority of the stories we see involve all of the mane six, after all the series is all about friendship, Friendship is Magic is great about take time out to give each girl her own episode per season. Allowing viewers to see different sides to the characters they live and allowing them to continuously develop and evolve- just as anyone does over time. At the same time, it is not un-common to have a break taken from our mane six and place the focus on other characters; Spike, Discord, and the Cutie Mark Crusaders are great examples of this.
Friendship is Magic has done a simply brilliant job at crafting such great characters, and done an even better job at developing them. Not only does the series have a great ‘mane’ cast, but supporting and background as well.
And for the first time in the five years that Friendship is Magic has graced the airwaves they are giving the spotlight exclusively to their background ponies in the series’ one-hundredth episode.
It is a great way to celebrate.
In the episode entitled “Slice of Life”, airing on June thirteenth, features the mane six busy dealing with an attack on their beloved home of Ponyville as the citizen of said city race around to put on a wedding for Cranky and Matilda’s wedding- an affair brought on printing errors on the invitations.
Naturally there will be road-blocks, and mix-ups as even in Ponyville things do not quite always go as planned. Regardless it will surely be another great and fan-favorite episode filled the heart and humor fans of the series adore. The hype for this episode alone has been amazing and just a glance at the trailers and sneak peeks fans have received prove that Friendship is Magic is only growing stronger and gaining more popularity as season five marches on.
