Why The Casting For The Hunger Games is Perfect – Thoughts

It seems Sarah over at Optionated has her own opinion of why the casting for The Hunger Games is perfect, but I have some thoughts of my own.
Jennifer Lawrence – Katniss Everdeen – Listen I still just don’t see it. The picture I had in my head does not match up to Jennifer Lawrence. I almost think she is a bit too pretty to play the part, I always felt that Katniss was a bit more ordinary and run down. Jennifer seems like from the start she is like the Katniss we expect to see in MockingJay not the one I would expect to see in The Hunger Games.
Josh Hutcherson – Peeta Mellark – I wasn’t sold on this one at first, but I did some thinking. Yeah Josh does make a good Peeta, maybe not my first thought when I read the book, but he fits the bill nicely. He even looks the part in the photos which is a hard thing to do. He portrays that baker’s son that is in love with Katniss from a look in a photo. Perfect choice here.
Liam Hemsworth – Gale Hawthorne – from the start I knew this would fit. I still have the Star Wars feeling of wanting an unknown here, but for me I haven’t seen Liam in too many roles so it still holds that allure. He plays the good-looking, semi-bad boy type that we all know and want from the book. I agree with Sarah on the fact that they do not look very much alike though, I personally think they will skip over that in the movie rather than addressing it though.
I will wait until we get her other choices, but to say that Woody Harrelson is the perfect choice for Haymitch is an understatement. I just wish that I could get past my issue of always wanting unknowns for these adaptations.

I hope they don’t skip the “they are cousins” part in the movie. it makes the intimidation by President snow so much more intense.
Also, I was very hesitant as i mentioned in my article about Katniss for the same reasons you are. But she has grown on me the more times i watch the trailer (which has been a lot lol)
Still Josh as Peeta is my favorite (though once the film comes out Elizabeth Banks as Effie might be pretty awesome)
Yeah I agree I think Effie is going to be GREAT, and while I like Elizabeth Banks, I think the costume designers are really making that character awesome
A lot of people don’t see why they picked Jennifer for Katniss, but they did. I do agree that she doesn’t sound anything like how the book describes her. But I think that is still pretty common with books turned into movies. I am personally excited to see how the whole story unfolds on screen when compared to the book.
For me, as stated, the one good thing is that we don’t have a bunch of high profile stars in the movie. Now will they be high profile stars after the movie, yes, but I like the mystery of seeing them in something like this first.
I’d say that the casting was excellent and that they really captured the characters pretty well. Jennifer’s performance was outstanding and I hope she gets nominated for it!
